Meghan and Harry demoted on Royal Family website

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been dropped several spots down on the official royals website.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now listed underneath the Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex, as well as the Princess Royal and the Duke of York.

Harry, 36, and Meghan, 39, used to be listed right after Prince William and Duchess Kate but above Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

Queen Elizabeth now site at the top of the page on Royal.uk’s “Family” section, where visitors may learn about the monarchy’s roles and each of its members, followed by her son, Prince Charles, and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, are the shown below that.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had been the next in line until recently. The website, which had been offline for many weeks while “under construction,” resurfaced on Saturday, with the now-California-based pair demoted down many positions.

The Queen has been relocated to a more prominent position on the page.

The pair made a bombshell disclosure about their prior royal life in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey after stepping down from their royal responsibilities last year, in which they accused the royal family of being racist.

“As announced in January, The Duke and Duchess have stepped back as senior members of The Royal Family. They are balancing their time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour their duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and their patronages. Frogmore Cottage in the UK remains their family home,” says Harry’s amended biography.

Meghan’s bio says, “The Duchess will continue to support a number of charitable causes and organizations which reflect the issues with which she has long been associated including the arts, access to education, support for women and animal welfare.”

It comes after Prince Edward and his wife, the Countess of Wessex, gave their first significant interview since their 1999 wedding.

The pair laughed over Harry and Meghan’s contentious Oprah appearance, insisting that the royals are still a family ‘no matter what happens.’

The website does not necessarily rank the royals, but Meghan and Harry were most likely moved down because they are not considered “working” royals anymore. Buckingham Palace announced in February that the couple will no longer be attending engagements on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II. “While everyone is saddened by their decision, the Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family,” according to the royal statement.

Some people on social media questioned why the couple was still on the website.

“Why? They are not working royals and they aren’t ‘dividing their time between the UK and North America’, why are they being promoted in the website?” one user said on Twitter.

“This isn’t about being petty. That website is a government site to be used ONLY for official business and working royals.”

Harry has revealed a lot about his past life in the last few months, from Meghan’s suicidal thoughts and past life struggles to why he moved to California with his wife and son to break a family cycle of “pain and suffering” after realizing his father Prince Charles “treated me the way he was treated.”

“When it comes to parenting, if I’ve experienced some form of pain or suffering because of the pain or suffering that perhaps my father or my parents had suffered, I’m going to make sure that I break that cycle,” Harry added. “There’s a lot of genetic pain and suffering that gets passed on anyway. And as parents, we should be doing the most we can to try and say, “You know what? That happened to me, I’m going to make sure that doesn’t happen to you,” he said.

Buckingham Palace told MailOnline it had no comment on the website modification ‘other than that we refresh the website regularly.’
