The dispute between her husband and brother-in-law has upset Kate Middleton, who wants to “smooth things up,” according to reports.

After the three were spotted talking after Prince Philip’s burial, the Duchess of Cambridge is being hailed as a potential mediator in the breach between William and Harry.

“Being so close to her own siblings, Pippa and James, and having witnessed first hand the special bond between William and Harry, she has found the whole situation difficult and upsetting,” a source told the Telegraph.

“Her natural instinct is to try to smooth things over.”

Following the funeral, it was said that Charles, Harry, William, and Kate gathered at neighboring Frogmore Cottage for a discussion.

According to some accounts, the father and sons did not have a secret or prolonged “summit” to resolve the split, instead engaging in a short outside conversation away from the cameras in the castle grounds.

Peacemaker

With a little assistance from the Duchess of Cambridge, William and Harry were spotted putting on an unified face during their grandfather’s funeral.

The touching reunion was the first time the brothers had seen one other in person since Harry left the UK more than a year ago.

Given the brothers’ poor relationship over the previous year, it was uncertain if they would speak at the burial.

The brothers attended the Duke of Edinburgh’s reduced funeral at Windsor Castle, along with 28 other guests.

As the group departed the poignant burial, Harry was spotted chatting with William and the Duchess of Cambridge following the sad ceremony.

As the mourners exited St George’s Chapel, Kate seems to have begun a conversation with Harry.

Harry was sitting alone inside the chapel, in accordance with Covid-19 rules, while the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge sat together.

Kate stepped back today to enable William and his brother to talk. William has previously referred to his wife as the “peacemaker” between the brothers.

As the three of them walked away from the rest of the family, Harry seemed to grin in Kate’s direction.

After a few moments, the brothers went forward together, while Kate stayed behind to speak to Zara Tindall.

“It looked like a conciliatory move by William to wait for Harry and allow him to catch up and chat to him and Kate. That could be a significant moment,” a royal insider claimed.

“Harry appeared grateful for the opportunity, and Kate seemed to make a point of letting the brothers walk alone together, having briefly chatted to Harry as well.

“They have a lot to iron out and you would hope they continued their conversation back at Windsor Castle

“It was only a few minutes in front of the cameras but it was warm and cordial. It appeared Charles paused and looked back to his sons together.

“It is believed they have spoken on the phone since Harry flew back to the UK. They have so much to speak about.

“Funerals have the ability to bring people together and I am sure that it would have warmed the heart of Prince Philip, if he could have seen that brief coming together.

The image inspired viewers, with one tweeting, “What a wonderful sight then to see William, Harry and Kate walking together.”

The family’s choice to walk back to the castle rather than take the state vehicles that were waiting for them is said to have been decided on the spur of the moment.

The possibility of reconciliation follows Harry and Meghan’s recent appearance with Oprah Winfrey, in which they claimed Meghan got no assistance from the monarchy during her mental health problems.

His already poor relationship with Prince William was further exacerbated by the pair’s allegations about royal life.

The couple also claimed that an unidentified royal, neither the Queen or the Duke of Edinburgh, expressed worry about the skin tone of their son Archie before he was born.
