Sharon Stone says she was tricked into not wearing underwear in ‘Basic Instinct’

Sharon Stone confesses that she was duped into not wearing panties in the film ‘Basic Instinct,’

Sharon Stone has revealed the origins of her iconic leg cross in the film ‘Basic Instinct,’ which catapulted her to international fame.

Stone says in her new memoir, “The Beauty of Living Twice,” that she was duped into not wearing panties for the scene because of a reported lighting issue.

“We can’t see anything, I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on,” Stone says she was told.

“After we shot Basic Instinct, I got called in to see it,” she said in an excerpt. “Not on my own with the director, as one would anticipate, given the situation that has given us all pause, so to speak, but with a room full of agents and lawyers, most of whom had nothing to do with the project. That was how I saw my vagina-shot for the first time, long after I’d been told, ‘We can’t see anything—I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on.’ Yes, there have been many points of view on this topic, but since I’m the one with the vagina in question, let me say: The other points of view are bullshit.”

She went on to say, “Now, here is the issue. It didn’t matter anymore. It was me and my parts up there. I had decisions to make.”

Stone claims she then marched into the production studio, slapped director Paul Verhoeven in the face, and drove to her vehicle to contact her lawyer, Marty Singer, who told her the film couldn’t be published and that “It wasn’t legal to shoot up my dress in this fashion.”

“I let Paul know of the options Marty had laid out for me,” she recalled. “Of course, he vehemently denied that I had any choices at all. I was just an actress, just a woman; what choices could I have? But I did have choices. So I thought and thought and I chose to allow this scene in the film. Why? Because it was correct for the film and for the character; and because, after all, I did it.”

Director of ‘Basic Instinct’ Denies Sharon Stone was duped into acting without underwear.

Sharon Stone’s description of what transpired behind the scenes of the streamy “Basic Instinct” scene is being challenged by Paul Verhoeven.

Verhoeven praised Stone’s performance as Catherine Tramell in “Basic Instinct,” which reportedly grossed $352 million worldwide, in an interview with Variety published Wednesday.

Nonetheless, he said that his recall of the frontal nudity moment was “radically different” from the actor’s, and that her account was “impossible.”

The filmmaker, whose credits include “Total Recall” and “Showgirls,” stated, “She knew exactly what we were doing. I told her it was based on a story of a woman that I knew when I was a student who did the crossing of her legs without panties regularly at parties. When my friend told her we could see her vagina, she said, ‘Of course, that’s why I do it.’ Then Sharon and I decided to do a similar sequence.”
