Secrets of the Bridgerton and Normal People s** scene coordinators

Intimacy coordinators are becoming increasingly common on film and television sets, especially after the MeToo scandal.

These professionals are responsible for ensuring actors remain comfortable and within their set boundaries during the filming of intimate scenes.

The coaches consulted during the filming of the hit TV shows Bridgerton and Normal People have recently lifted the lid on some of the secrets to their success.

In interviews with Radio Times, intimacy coordinators revealed what they carry in their ‘kit bags’ to ensure everything runs to plan.

One of the essential items is flesh-coloured underwear, which is used as a modesty garment.

They also carry mints to ensure fresh breath and heat pads to keep actors warm between takes.

Mineral water spray and glycerine are other must-have items that create the impression of beads of sweat.

Green tape is also part of their kit bags, as it is used to make clear the actors’ boundaries to camera operators.

The coordinators also carry small covers to protect a woman’s modesty and strapless underwear that sticks to a male actor’s pelvis, holding body parts into place.

While many have welcomed the arrival of intimacy coordinators, one coach, Mia Schachter, who has worked on Grey’s Anatomy, admitted she had been met by ‘resistance’ in some situations.

She added that it had mainly been ‘from female directors and actors.’

Schachter told Radio Times that, ‘My hunch is that, for some women, having me present means they have to examine their past experiences on set without an intimacy coordinator.

I’ve wondered if the introduction of this role challenges some people to look back and interrogate the ways in which they might not have recognized exploitation.’

Sonya Barnett, who is currently working on Guillermo del Toro’s film Nightmare Alley starring Cate Blanchett and Bradley Cooper, said that there are a lot of people who are thankful for the rise in intimacy coordination.

Many have had horrible experiences in the past, like Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, who wasn’t expecting the role of Daenerys Targaryen to entail so much nudity.

Now, she is expected to do n^dty in other roles.

The idea that because actors said yes once, they will always do it is a problem.

It falls in line with people who think that if you said yes to s** once, that consent will always be there.

Intimacy coordinators are essential, and their roles ensure that actors can work comfortably and safely on set.

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan recently revealed that she skipped over some of the steamy scenes while watching the show with her mother.

The Irish actress plays Penelope Featherington on the wildly popular Bridgerton, which has recently been named Netflix’s most popular original series ever.

Coughlan fast-forwarded through an episode to avoid watching some of the steamy scenes with her mother.

Before Bridgerton’s release on Christmas Day last year, Coughlan feared the show would not be a hit.

She admitted on the Make It Reign with Josh Smith podcast that she knew it was coming out on the biggest streaming service in the world on Christmas Day, but there was still a part of her that went, “Is anyone going to watch this?

I need to get people to watch it.”

However, Bridgerton proved to be a massive success, with Netflix revealing that it is its biggest-ever original series, having been viewed by a record 82 million households in just 28 days.

In conclusion, intimacy coordination is essential for ensuring actors remain comfortable and within their set boundaries during the filming of intimate scenes.

Their kit bags contain everything from flesh-coloured underwear to heat pads and green tape to protect the actors’ modesty.

While some female directors and actors have met the introduction of this role with resistance, many are thankful for its rise in popularity.

The idea that actors will always do n^dty because they said yes once is problematic, and intimacy coordinators ensure that actors can work safely and comfortably on set.

Finally, the success of Bridgerton has shown that there is a growing demand for entertainment that features steamy scenes, and intimacy coordinators are essential to ensuring that these scenes are filmed safely and respectfully.
