Sean Mathias ‘coerced’ into s** act early in his career

A prominent theatre director in the UK has spoken out about how he was coerced into a s**ual act earlier in his career.

Sean Mathias, who has worked alongside Sir Ian McKellen on numerous occasions, revealed that a powerful figure in the industry had threatened to destroy his career if he didn’t comply.

Mathias explained that when he was younger, he was bullied for being effeminate and this left him feeling frightened.

He therefore felt that if anyone forced themselves upon him, it was safer to give in to their demands.

It was later on that a powerful man in the industry took him out to dinner and then suggested that they go back to his office.

Mathias stated that alarm bells went off, but he thought the man was trying to be kind.

Once they were in the office, the man coerced him into a s**ual act, making it clear that if he complied, his career would go in the right direction, but if he didn’t, it would not.

The director admitted to playing along that time, but felt terrible shame and vulnerability afterwards.

Mathias has rarely spoken about the incident in the past and only revealed it on Radio 4’s Today programme.

He also disclosed that he was 19 or 20 at the time.

The director added that he was dismayed by the allegations against Kevin Spacey and said that the actor’s decision to come out as gay following accusations of historical harassment was unfortunate.

According to Mathias, the last thing that the gay movement needs is to be associated with paedophilia, which it has fought against for so long.

He believes that some people will now associate homosexuality with wanting to sleep with children and this misconception will be heightened.

The revelation from Mathias comes amid ongoing discussions in the entertainment industry about s**ual harassment and abuse.

Many high-profile figures have been accused of inappropriate behaviour in recent months, leading to a wider conversation about power dynamics and exploitation.

The issue has also brought to light the fact that many people have felt unable to speak out and have suffered in silence for years.

Mathias’ story is a reminder of the importance of speaking out and challenging those who abuse their power.

It is hoped that the increased attention on these issues will lead to greater awareness and change within the industry.
