Scarlett Johansson agreed to strip to her Underwear because of Sofia Coppola

Scarlett Johansson’s role in the movie Lost in Translation required her to dive deep into the character’s emotions.

The movie also demanded her to wear underwear on camera, which created a stir among fans.

The actor recently shared how director Sofia Coppola convinced her to wear a specific pair for the movie.

Lost in Translation features Bill Murray and Johansson as the lead actors who find solace in each other in Tokyo, Japan.

Murray plays Bob Harris, an American actor going through a midlife crisis, while Johansson portrays Charlotte, a young woman still trying to find her place in the world.

The movie earned critical acclaim, but only Murray received an Oscar nomination.

Johansson, in an interview with Rebecca Murray on Live About, spoke about some of the intimate moments in the movie.

Coppola once told the press that Johansson was a “good sport” about wearing underwear during filming.

Johansson explained how the filmmaker got her to feel comfortable.

“I’d been eating so much Udon, I just thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m so not going to look decent in these underwear,’” Johansson said.

“I really didn’t want to wear those underwear because I was so bloated from eating all of this Udon all of the time.”

Coppola suggested that it would be nice if Johansson wore the underwear as that’s what was written in the script.

However, she understood if the actor was uncomfortable with it.

Coppola then offered to try them on herself, and if Johansson didn’t want to wear them, she didn’t have to.

She agreed to the deal.

Johansson added that Coppola has a lanky and skinny body, making the underwear look fantastic on her, which convinced her to wear the specific pair.

Murray pointed out that Johansson played a character five years older than herself in Lost in Translation, so she wanted to know her experience with that.

Johansson responded that it didn’t bother her too much, but there was specific preparation she put into her performance.

“The only time that I was really aware of it was when I was putting on my wedding band.

Other than that, you think about it, and it’s like, ‘Five years here, five years there.

No big deal.

‘”

Johansson explained that she rehearsed for two days with Giovanni Ribisi to create the dynamics between their characters as a married couple.

She wanted to portray the love between them and the differences that come with marriage.

In conclusion, Scarlett Johansson shared her experience of wearing underwear in Lost in Translation.

The actor stated that Coppola’s encouragement made her comfortable with the decision.

Johansson also spoke about playing a character older than her age, which did not bother her much.

The actor had prepared well for the role and rehearsed with her co-star to bring out the nuances of the characters’ relationship.
