Sarah Jessica Parker addresses Kim Cattrall’s absence in Sex and the City revival

Fans of “Sex and the City” were ecstatic when Sarah Jessica Parker announced that a new chapter of the classic series is coming soon on HBO Max.

Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis will reprise their roles as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York-Goldenblatt, respectively, in the upcoming installment, And Just Like That. Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones, the second member of what had been a foursome of gal buddies for so long, was not mentioned at all.

Parker confirmed Cattrall’s absence from the revival on Instagram, but also explained the state of her relationship with her.

“They dislike each other,” one fan remarked. Sarah Jessica’s response was: “No, I don’t dislike her. I’ve never said that. Never would. Samantha isn’t part of this story. But she will always be part of us. No matter where we are or what we do. X.”

Samantha Jones may not feature in the upcoming season at all, according to this statement. Parker, on the other hand, was evasive when a fan proposed recasting her role.

“No disrespect to Kim, but if she’s not participating please please please recast Samantha with the awesome Jennifer Coolidge,” a fan said on Parker’s Instagram post. “I would line up and pay good money to see Jennifer as Samantha.”

Parker then replied, “We have some new stories to tell. We are excited.”

Parker also replied to another fan who expressed enthusiasm for the return on Instagram, but admitted that she will “miss Kim/Samantha.”

Parker said, “We will too. We loved her so.”

Although Carrie Bradshaw and Samantha Jones appeared to be inseparable in “Sex and the City,” Cattrall says they were not as close off camera.

In a 2017 interview with Piers Morgan, Cattrall stated, “We’ve never been friends. We’ve been colleagues, and in some way, it’s a very healthy place to be.”

Cattrall denied claims that her demands for a third movie were delaying the sequel at Warner Bros. in the same interview. “To get any kind of negative press about something that I’ve been saying for almost a year of no, I’m demanding or a diva, specifically Sarah Jessica Parker, is I think she could’ve been nicer,” she remarked. “I really think she could’ve been nicer. I don’t know what her issue is.”

Following the death of her brother Chris in February 2018, Cattrall called Parker “cruel” and uploaded a photo of a message that read: “I don’t need your love or support at this tragic time @sarahjessicaparker” after Parker left a condolence comment on her Instagram.

HBO Max confirmed in a statement that the reboot’s storyline would follow the characters’ lives right now, and that filming will begin in New York in the coming months. “The new Max Original series is based on the book, Sex and the City, by Candice Bushnell and the original TV series created by Darren Star. The series will follow Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.”
