Salma Hayek hated shooting this intimate scene

Over the past three decades, Salma Hayek has been a sought-after leading lady in movies and TV shows, often cast as a romantic lead.

However, not all her on-screen romantic encounters have been smooth sailing.

In a recent interview on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Hayek opened up about a particularly challenging s-x scene that she struggled to complete.

The difficult scene in question was from 1995’s Desperado, which was the second installment in Robert Rodriguez’s Mexico Trilogy and Hayek’s first significant role in an English language film.

She starred alongside Antonio Banderas, and the intimate scene pushed her to her limits.

“I started to sob, ‘I don’t know that I can do it. I’m afraid,'” Hayek confessed to Shepard.

Both Banderas and Rodriguez tried their best to make Hayek feel comfortable during the scene, but their attempts to lighten the mood were unsuccessful.

“They would try to make me laugh. I would take [my towel] off for two seconds and start crying again,” Hayek recalled.

“But we got through it. We did the best with what we could do at the time.”

Hayek was intimidated by Banderas’ relaxed demeanor during the scene, even though she considered him an “absolute gentleman” throughout the filming process.

The two have remained close friends since working together.

“He was very free. It scared me that for him, it was like nothing,” Hayek explained.

“I started crying, and he was like, ‘Oh my god. You’re making me feel terrible.’ And I was so embarrassed that I was crying.”

Hayek’s concern extended beyond the set, as she was worried about her family seeing the film.

The thought of her father and brother watching the scene and potentially being teased for it weighed heavily on her mind.

“I keep thinking of my father and my brother,” Hayek shared.

“Are they going to see it? And are they going to get teased?”

She also addressed the double standard in how male and female nudity are perceived in films.

“Guys don’t have that,” Hayek pointed out.

“Your father will be, ‘Yeah! That’s my son!'”

Hayek revealed that the intimate scene was only added after she had already committed to the movie, noting that it was not in the original script.

“It was not in the original script,” Hayek said in a 2020 Elle interview. “I was already like, ‘No, that was not in there the first time.'”

During the film’s premiere, Hayek and her family left the theater as the intimate scene played, never having to find out how her family might react to it.

“I walked out of the premiere when they played it and I took my brother, father, and mother with me. I didn’t want any of them to see it,” Hayek told Elle.

“They were happy to walk out right away and then we came back again.”
