Romeo and Juliet 1968: Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting sue over s** scene

Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting, the two actors who starred in Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 movie adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, have filed a lawsuit against Paramount Pictures for s**ual harassment, fraud, s**ual abuse, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The lawsuit was filed in Santa Monica Superior Court in California last Friday.

The actors are both British and were just 15 and 16 years old when they filmed the movie’s n^de scene.

According to the lawsuit, Zeffirelli had initially promised that there would be no n^dty involved in the film.

However, on the last day of filming, he allegedly told the actors that the film would fail unless they performed a n^de scene while wearing body makeup.

Feeling helpless and trusting Zeffirelli as their friend, the actors claim they had no choice but to comply with the director’s demands.

The lawsuit alleges that the actors were filmed n^de without their knowledge, causing them long-term financial, physical, and emotional pain.

The film also cost them “a lifetime of loss of earnings and other employment benefits and job opportunities,” according to the complaint.

The $500 million in damages sought by the actors matches the amount the film has earned since its release in 1968.

The actors’ lawsuit relies on a California law that temporarily suspended the statute of limitations on child s**ual abuse claims.

That law had a December 31, 2022 deadline.

In a statement to Variety, Solomon Gresen, attorney for the pair, said the actors “were very young naïve children in the ’60s who had no understanding of what was about to hit them.”

Hussey continued to pursue her acting career even after the film’s release.

She even reunited with Zeffirelli to play Mary, the mother of Jesus, in the director’s acclaimed 1977 mini-series Jesus Of Nazareth.

In an interview from 2018, Hussey claimed Zeffirelli referred to her as “b–bs O’Mina” and that he had admitted she was the unrequited love of his life.

Also, Whiting went on to enjoy a career as an actor and singer in his native Britain.

The movie was released in 1968 to critical acclaim and earned Zeffirelli an Academy Award nomination for Best Director.

He died in 2019 at the age of 96.

The lawsuit filed by Hussey and Whiting is seeking damages from Paramount Pictures, the studio that released the film.

It remains to be seen how this lawsuit will progress and whether the actors will receive the compensation they are seeking.
