Rock Hudson’s boyfriend details their secret gay life

Lee Garlington, an extra on a movie set, has broken his silence about his three-year romantic relationship with Hollywood star Rock Hudson.

Garlington, who was once called Hudson’s “one true love,” revealed the extent to which they went to keep their relationship a secret.

He said that he had heard rumors that the star was gay and was interested in meeting him. Garlington waited for a year before Hudson contacted him.

Garlington revealed that they would spend all their time together.

He said, “I’d come over after work, spend the night and leave the next morning.”

They tried to keep their relationship a secret by each bringing a date to social events.

Garlington said that they believed they were being clever. The relationship lasted from 1962 until 1965.

Their sneaking around seemed to work, but Hudson became concerned when he learned that a female fan had broken into his home.

The star had photos of Garlington, a stockbroker, in his bedside table, but the woman didn’t find them.

This incident shook Hudson up, and he realized he was vulnerable. He put gates on his house after that.

Garlington said that he didn’t know how much Hudson cared for him until he read his biography after he died of AIDS in 1985.

Hudson called Garlington his “true love.”

Garlington was touched by Hudson’s words and said, “I had no idea I meant that much to him.”

Hudson was briefly married to Phyllis Gates from 1955 to 1958 but never publicly came out of the closet before his death.

However, many of his closest friends, including Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe, were said to have known about his lifestyle.

Hudson had other relationships with men over the course of his life, most notably with Marc Christian, whom he met in 1982.

Christian sued Hudson’s estate after his death and won $5.5 million.

He claimed that Hudson never informed him that he had AIDS and continued to have sexual contact with him after he was diagnosed.

Garlington’s interview, as well as one with Hudson’s former co-star and friend Doris Day, can be found in this week’s issue of People.
