This raises the question of how his first wife, Valerie Velardi, coped with the situation.
Robin Williams’ First Marriage: The Early Days In 1978, Robin Williams’ career took off with appearances on Happy Days and the premiere of Mork and Mindy.
That same year, he married Valerie Velardi, whom he had met while she was working as a waitress in a bar.
Williams charmed her by pretending to have a French accent and serving her a drink. Their connection was instant, and they soon became a couple.
Sadly, their marriage would not last, and they divorced about ten years later.
Valerie Velardi’s Response to Robin Williams’ Affair Robin Williams’ life and career continued to be celebrated after his death in 2014.
In 2018, the documentary Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind, directed by Marina Zenovich, was released.
This film provided a deeper insight into Williams’ life, featuring interviews with those closest to him, including his first wife, Valerie Velardi.
Velardi had remained out of the public eye for many years but participated in the documentary to share her side of the story.
During her interview, she admitted that she knew about Williams’ infidelities and seemed to accept his inability to remain faithful.
She expressed that she understood his love for women, but she also wanted him to come home.
In an earlier interview with People magazine, Velardi revealed that she found it harder to deal with her husband’s unfaithfulness after they had a child.
Eventually, they hired a nanny, Marsha Garces Williams, who would later have an affair with Robin.
This affair led to the end of Velardi and Williams’ marriage.
Life after Separation and Divorce Following their separation, Robin Williams and Marsha Garces built a life together, eventually marrying in 1989.
Velardi also briefly moved on to another relationship, but instead of focusing on it, she chose to prioritize her personal growth.
During their separation, Velardi told People, “We separated to reexamine our lives. It’s a time for personal growth for both of us. I see another man but I live alone, and I like it that way.”
Rumors circulated that Velardi later married South African drummer Ricky Fataar and had a daughter with him, but this information has never been confirmed or denied.
