Rihanna says new music will be “completely different”: ‘You’re Not Going to Expect What You Hear’

Rihanna is yet to release new music, but she has stated that when she does, it will be “completely different” from anything she has done before.

The singer discussed the follow-up to ‘Anti’ with Associated Press while discussing her latest Savage X Fenty show, which will premiere tomorrow (September 24) on Amazon Prime Video.

“You’re not going to expect what you hear. Just put that in your mind,” Rihanna said.

The nine-time Grammy winner admits to experimenting with music in the same way she does with her notorious design choices. She went on, saying:

“Whatever you know of Rihanna is not going to be what you hear. I’m really experimenting. Music is like fashion. You should be able to play. I should be able to wear whatever I want. I treat music the same way. So I’m having fun and it’s going to be completely different.”

Rihanna released her debut album, ‘Anti,’ in 2016. When the album was released, NME rated it three stars, calling it “a defiantly bangerless take-me-seriously-as-an-artist album that reveals new charms every time you spin it.”

“It’s not quite the revelatory departure we might have hoped for, and has the rich but unfocused feel of something worked on perhaps too long with obsessive fervour, but it’s also subtle and interesting; an intriguing soundtrack to an era of change.”

Rihanna has not yet confirmed a release date for her new album, but music is an important part of her Savage X Fenty event. The third version of the star’s now-famous concert will feature an all-star roster of models, actors, and artists, including Nas, Ricky Martin, Jasmine Sullivan, Daddy Yankee, and Normani. Special guests include Adriana Lima, Gigi Hadid, Vanessa Hudgens, Erykah Badu, Alek Wek, and Jeremy Pope.

“All the bras that make my boobies sit up, because, you know, I’m 33 now. They’re not where they used to be. I’m just looking forward to actually seeing my pieces on the talent, seeing it on so many different body shapes and silhouettes, because that’s what brings the pieces to life.”
