Rihanna, Gal Gadot, Gigi Hadid and More Stars Speak Out on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Hollywood celebrities are speaking out over recent violence in and around Jerusalem in the midst of an ongoing conflict between Israeli police and Palestinian demonstrators.

In Gaza, at least 65 people have died, including 16 children, while Israel says seven people have died there since Monday, including a soldier and an Indian civilian.

‘Wonder Woman’ actress Gal Gadot expressed her concern on social media, saying she was “heartbroken” by the conflicts that have engulfed the region.

“My heart breaks. My country is at war. I worry for my family, my friends. I worry for my people,” she shared in an Instagram post on May 12. “This is a vicious cycle that has been going on far too long. Israel deserves to live as a free and safe nation. Our neighbors deserve the same. I pray for the victims and their families, I pray for this unimaginable hostility to end, I pray for our leaders to find the solution so that we could live side by side in peace.”

“I pray for better days,” the actress said at the end of the piece.

Rihanna also shared her views.

‘My heart is breaking with the violence I’m seeing displayed between Israel and Palestine! I can’t bare to see it!’ the We Found Love singer wrote in an Instagram post that has received over 1 million likes so far.

‘Innocent Israeli and Palestinian children are hiding in bomb shelters, over 40 lives lost in Gaza alone, at least 13 of whom were also innocent children!

‘There needs to be some kind of resolve! We are sadly watching innocent people fall victim to notions perpetuated by government and extremists and this cycle needs to be broken! [sic].’

“I stand with humanity! this ain’t it y’all.”

Some commended Rihanna’s post for raising attention to the humanitarian issue, while others criticized her for taking a neutral stance that allows Israel to get away with its acts without being held accountable.

Other celebrities also had their say.

Bella Hadid: “Hate from either side is not okay—I do not condone it!! I will not stand to hear people talk badly about Jewish people through all of this. This is about HUMANITY not about religion !!!! This is about freedom in Palestine.”

Gigi Hadid: “One cannot advocate for equality, LGBT & women’s rights, condemn corrupt & abusive regimes and other injustices yet choose to ignore the Palestinian oppression. It does not add up. You cannot pick & choose whose human rights matter more.”

‘One cannot advocate for racial equality, LGBT & women’s rights, condemn corrupt & abusive regimes and other injustices yet choose to ignore the Palestinian oppression. It does not add up,’ Gigi wrote in a black-and-white quote.

‘You cannot pick & choose whose human rights matter more.’

Meanwhile, Zayn Malik, Gigi’s boyfriend and father of the couple’s newborn baby, shared a UNICEF article on children murdered in the Gaza Strip as a result of the growing violence on Twitter.

The Pillowtalk actor added beside the post, “I stand with the Palestinian people and support their resistance to colonisation and protection of their human rights.”

‘My heart aches for the families who have lost loved ones. We can not stand as silent witnesses to children being orphaned and murdered and not demand for the human rights of all Palestinians! This must end. Free Palestine.’

Trevor Noah, the famed presenter of ‘The Daily Show,’ highlighted the violence on his show and examined the intricacies of the current issue.

“If you start from ‘Israel fired rockets into Gaza,’ then Israel is the bad guy, because they’re bombing Gaza,” Noah explained. “But then you take a step back in time, and you go, ‘Well, but Hamas fired rockets at Israel.’ Then Hamas is the bad guy. But then you take a step back, and you go, ‘But the Israeli police went in and started beating people up in a mosque during Ramadan, the most holy time in the Muslim calendar.’ Well then, Israel is the bad guy.” he said.

“I just want to ask an honest question here,” Noah said. “If you are in a fight where the other person cannot beat you, how much should you retaliate when they try to hurt you?”

“Everyone has a different answer to the question, and I’m not trying to answer the question, nor do I think I’m smart enough to solve it. All I ask is, when you have this much power, what is your responsibility?”

Israel and Hamas have intensified their conflict, with both sides firing aerial bombardments in some of the region’s bloodiest fighting since 2014.
