Renée Zellweger was told to drink alcohol before undressing on set

Renée Zellweger has spoken up about how she was urged to drink alcohol on set at the beginning of her career.

The star of The Thing About Pam explains the incident happened before she was set to shoot n-ked scenes in a cover story for Harper’s Bazaar.

The two-time Oscar winner emphasized that she was not a victim in the situation and omitted naming the project. Rather, Zellweger was discussing the struggles she encountered on the set as a young woman in Hollywood.

“There have been times I have been in, you know, on set, where a producer’s ready for me to go ahead and take my clothes off: ‘Here, drink this wine, ’cause then you’ll do it,’” Zellweger states. “And, you know, I’m not gonna take that wine, but I would like a phone. ’Cause I have a phone call I need to make right now.”

The actress revealed that the 1996 romantic comedy Jerry Maguire’s production was halted because she refused to appear topless in a 2001 interview about her reluctance to perform intimate scenes.

“It’s not like Cameron’s big plan was to have this sleazy, gratuitous b–b shot,” Zellweger said.

At the time, Zellweger said that too many times, the plot is derailed by bare scenes. “When a woman stands n-ked in a room, unless that particular moment is held up by the subject matter, all you notice is that there’s a n-ked girl, ” she said.

Fans believed Zellweger had fully undressed for a river bathing scene in the 2008 Western “Appaloosa,” but the “Bridget Jones’ Diary” alum told Boston Herald readers that director Ed Harris shot the scene at “such a great distance” that her “little nudie thing” cover-up was rendered invisible.

At the time, Zellweger said, “I look n-ked so we got the job done without doing it and that makes me happy.”

These on-set interactions are not acceptable, and the MeToo Movement and other organizations are working to change things. This is a consensus among many in Hollywood today. Even though there is undoubtedly still much to be done, things are improving. Intimacy coordinators have been hired by several shows, like Outlander, to make sure that audiences feel at ease during specific parts.

Some actors and actresses feel completely at ease exposing themselves for a movie (one Dune star asked for plenty of them and for a good reason). However, in situations like these, permission is crucial, and it seems that in this instance, the offer of wine was made in an attempt to partially withhold it.

After winning the second Academy Award of her career in 2020 for “Judy,” Zellweger switched to television as the lead in NBC’s gritty criminal comedy “The Thing About Pam.”

After Netflix’s “What/If” and her second Oscar for “Judy,” Zellweger returns to television with the limited series that Jason Blum produced.

After taking a vacation from acting, Zellweger produced both, telling Harper’s Bazaar that she “wanted to not have anything to do all the time” and be more impulsive. According to Zellweger, “I wanted to allow for some accidents.”

Zellweger compared the experience of filming the Judy Garland biopic to “making a thesis film in college, where it’s a private experience, and you just sneak off and figure your way through it with your couple of friends.”  She said it was  “really nice way to rekindle my love for the process.

Renée Zellweger is an American actress who has had a successful and diverse career in the film and television industry. She has starred in a wide range of films, including Bridget Jones’s Diary, Chicago, and Cold Mountain, and she has won numerous awards and accolades for her performances.

In 2021, Zellweger starred in the film The Thing About Pam, which was a true-crime drama based on the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria.

The Thing About Pam is a six-part limited series that was produced by NBC and directed by Liz Garbus.

The series is based on the true story of the murder of Betsy Faria, who was found stabbed to death in her home in 2011. Zellweger plays Pam Hupp, who was a friend of Faria and a key suspect in her murder.

Through her performance in The Thing About Pam, Zellweger is able to create a complex and intriguing character who is both sympathetic and sinister.

As Pam, Zellweger is able to portray a woman who is charming and likable on the surface, but who is also manipulative and dangerous.

As the series progresses, Pam’s true nature is revealed, and Zellweger is able to create a chilling and unforgettable portrayal of a woman who is willing to do anything to protect herself.

In addition to Zellweger’s performance, The Thing About Pam also features strong performances from actors such as Matt Bomer, Julia Garner, and Bob Odenkirk.

The series is a well-crafted and suspenseful drama that explores the complexities of human nature and the consequences of lying and deceit.

One of the most striking things about Zellweger’s performance in The Thing About Pam is the way that she is able to convey the emotional depth and complexity of her character.

As Pam, Zellweger is able to portray a woman who is struggling with her own demons and insecurities, and who is desperate to maintain control over her life. She is able to convey the fear and desperation that Pam feels, as well as the determination and resilience that drives her.

In addition to her emotional range, Zellweger is also able to create a convincing and authentic portrayal of a woman who is willing to do whatever it takes to protect herself.

She is able to convey the cunning and ruthlessness that are necessary for Pam to succeed, and she is able to create a character who is both formidable and intimidating.

Through her performance, Zellweger is able to create a character who is both relatable and disturbing, and who is ultimately one of the most memorable and compelling characters in the series.

In addition to Zellweger’s performance, The Thing About Pam is also notable for its strong supporting cast and its well-crafted and suspenseful storytelling. The series is full of twists and turns, and it keeps the audience guessing until the very end.

The supporting cast is also excellent, with standout performances from actors such as Matt Bomer and Julia Garner, who are able to create complex and compelling characters of their own.
