Red Sparrow director on Jennifer Lawrence n^de scene: ‘She made the decision’

Red Sparrow director Francis Lawrence has praised Jennifer Lawrence for making the decision to appear n^de in his latest film.

Speaking to Radio Times, the director said that Jennifer knew it was an “all or nothing” scenario when she read the script.

He explained that “either I make it and I do what’s in the movie or I don’t do it.

I’m not going to take this movie on and then say I’ll do it but just take all this other stuff out’.”
Jennifer has spoken about her decision to go through with the n^ked moment, saying it helped her to find “empowerment” of her body after she was a victim of the Hollywood photo hack.

The actress recently revealed on 60 Minutes: “It’s my body and it’s my art and it’s my choice.

And if you don’t like b–bs, you should not go see Red Sparrow.”
Francis Lawrence also revealed that he removed Vladimir Putin from the movie, despite him featuring on the book on which it is based.

“There’s two big things.

One is I don’t view it as a political film – I love the human story of it,” he explained.

Red Sparrow is Francis Lawrence’s fourth collaboration with Jennifer Lawrence.

The film, which also stars Joel Egerton and Charlotte Rampling, has received mixed to positive reviews from critics.

The spy thriller follows ballerina Dominika Egorova (Jennifer Lawrence) who is recruited to ‘Sparrow School’, a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon.

The movie is based on a novel by former CIA officer Jason Matthews.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Jennifer Lawrence spoke about the difficulties of filming the movie’s n^de scenes.

“Everybody made me feel so comfortable that I probably at a certain point started making everybody else uncomfortable.

Because I’d be like, ‘I don’t want the robe.

I’m hot.

I’m eating.’ Everybody’s like, ‘She needs to cover up’.”
Red Sparrow marks the first time Jennifer Lawrence has appeared n^de on screen since the 2014 film, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.

In that movie, she appeared topless for a brief moment.

Speaking about the scene in Red Sparrow, Jennifer previously said that it was important for her to appear n^ked on screen in order to “take something back” after having her privacy violated during the Hollywood photo hack.

“I realised that there was a difference between consent and not,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

“I showed up for the first day [of filming] and I did it and I felt empowered.

I feel like something that was taken from me, I got back, and am using in my art.”
While Jennifer has received praise for her performance in Red Sparrow, critics have been divided over the film itself.

Some have praised the movie for its boldness and Jennifer’s acting, while others have criticised it for being too slow-paced and s**-obsessed.

Despite mixed reviews, Red Sparrow is expected to perform well at the box office when it opens in cinemas tomorrow.

The movie has generated a lot of buzz due to Jennifer Lawrence’s involvement, as well as its racy marketing campaign.
