Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Foundation Raises $13 Million, But Only a Fraction Goes to Charity

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle founded their Actual Foundation in October 2020, with the aim of using it as both a non-profit charitable organization and as a for-profit business for media entities, including Artuel Audio and Actual Productions.

The Artuel Foundation has raised $13 million since its formation after Megxit in 2020.

However, a recent report by French newspaper Envoy Special, which analyzed the tax records of the actual organization, revealed that only a small fraction of the money raised went to charity.

The couple said they raised $13 million in donation money, but the 22 checks they distributed to different charities totaled only $2,250,000.

Another significant expense was $1 million for their operating costs, so $9 million remains unspent.

This discrepancy between figures and philanthropic discourse is not new for the couple.

When they were working members of the royal family, they had another foundation, the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.

On the annual report for 2019-2020, it is said that they had raised £782,000 in donation money.

Out of those £782,000, £705,000 was spent not on charity but on operating costs.

Basically, 90% of the money never helped anyone.

According to tax returns, a single donation from one anonymous donor totaled a whopping $10 million from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, SVCF.

According to the SVCF annual report, the Mountain View-based non-profit gave out a record-breaking $2.7 billion in grants to nearly 6,000 non-profit organizations in 2021.

R2L also received another $3 million from another unknown donor and $4,470 from public donations.

According to the couple’s tax returns, they worked just one hour per week for the charitable part of the foundation.

However, this is standard reporting for these types of tax forms.

For the tax returns for 2021, the first full year of operation, the charity spent $163,085 on salaries.

James Holt, the chief executive of the foundation, worked an hour a week and received a $59,846 salary and $3,832 in other benefits.

$40,867 in wages were paid to program service, and $22,811 were for management and general expenses.

Other 2021 expenses totaled $727,666,427.

$110,000 were spent on legal fees, about $69,000 on conferences, meetings, and conventions, and $12,000 were allotted to travel.

During 2021, the charity expenses totaled $3,987,070.

The majority of it, over $3 million, was donated via grants to 40 organizations, including vaccine equity relief centers and refugee resettlement.

Charity compensation, benefits, taxes, legal fees, events, and travel totaled around $369,925.

After stepping down from their royal duties, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle allegedly worked only one hour a week at their actual foundation in 2021.

Since they have made humanitarian charity their top concern since moving to the United States, the couple will inevitably be questioned about what they have been doing with their time.

According to a 2021 tax filing report, Prince Harry, 38, and his wife Meghan Markle, 41, have put in 52 hours a year but still managed to raise $13 million from wealthy donors who supported the group.

Harry and Meghan said in their filing that Archul’s core purpose is to uplift and unite communities, local and global, online and offline, one act of compassion at a time.

They added, Archul Foundation believes that compassion is the defining cultural force of the 21st century and, through its work, Archul Foundation supports a growing community of partner organizations fueling systemic cultural change.

Archul Foundation listens to people in their communities, helps them tell their stories, puts real action behind its words, and spotlights a new generation of leadership.
