Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Face Mixed Reception in Germany

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, found themselves at the center of controversy as royal fans claimed they were booed during their recent visit to Germany.

A video capturing the couple being booed has been circulating, although the authenticity of the footage remains unverified.

The Sussexes arrived at the Dusseldorf Rathaus, also known as the Town Hall, in Germany for an Invictus Games event.

Upon their arrival, they were greeted by the town’s mayor, Secretary of State Merle, Brigadier Marstaller, and General Loubenthal.

Royal enthusiasts, numbering in the hundreds, braved the stifling heat for over two hours, hoping to catch a glimpse of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and perhaps even snap a selfie with them.

The crowd, comprising both Germans and Brits, eagerly waved Union Jacks while donning paper masks of the Queen and other royal regalia.

Their enthusiasm was palpable as they tried to usher the couple over for a quick picture and chat.

Some admitted to being attracted by the spectacle that surrounds the pair, likening them to soap stars.

One young woman, although critical of the couple’s behavior towards the Royal family, still wanted to see them in person.

Among the throngs of supporters were former serviceman Bob Clark and his wife Lily, who went all out with their attire.

Bob wore an ermine robe, crown, and a mask of the Queen, while Lily carried a bag celebrating Harry and Meghan’s marriage.

She completed her patriotic ensemble with a Union Jack coat and hat.

The couple traveled from Duisburg to demonstrate their unwavering support for the Royal family, despite Harry and Meghan’s decision to step down as senior royals in January 2020, an event that came to be known as “Megxit.”

As the Duchess of Sussex waved to fans, eager onlookers captured the moment on their mobile phones.

More than 500 people stood behind metal barriers outside the Town Hall, with some securing their spots three hours prior to the couple’s scheduled arrival.

Elisa, a 24-year-old spectator, acknowledged the couple’s controversial remarks about the Royal family but still felt compelled to see them in person.

Her friend Melina, aged 26, echoed similar sentiments, describing the couple as a captivating soap opera and expressing her interest in anything related to the Queen and the Royal family.

Local security teams were deployed around the red carpet leading to the Town Hall, ensuring the safety of the Duke and Duchess.

Only two uniformed police officers were visible before the couple’s arrival, standing at the edge of the crowd.

Meghan, sporting a £245 cream knitted vest from trendy LA label Anine Bing, paired with matching trousers, while Harry opted for a grey suit.

The couple arrived in Germany earlier that day, and to facilitate their travel, police closed junctions and set up extensive roadblocks to avoid traffic congestion.

During their visit, Prince Harry and Meghan engaged in meetings with officials and potential competitors in the city.

They were then taken by boat along the Rhine River to the Merkerspiel Arena for a press conference, during which Harry delivered remarks.

The £13 million MS Rhine Galaxy was docked along the river, awaiting their arrival.

As the couple made their way through the crowds, Harry extended his fingers in a friendly greeting to an unseen crowd.

Once again, over 500 spectators stood behind metal barriers outside the Town Hall, some having secured their spots hours in advance.

City officials spared no effort in rolling out the red carpet for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, ensuring it was spotless.

However, they emphasized that the visit was private, with the couple being protected by their own security team, and Harry and Meghan themselves covering the expenses.
