Photographer Accuses Aziz Ansari of Sexual Assault

A 23-year-old photographer based in Brooklyn has accused actor and comedian Aziz Ansari of sexual assault.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous and will be referred to as “Grace,” shared her story with online publication Babe, detailing the alleged incident that took place in New York City nearly four months ago.

Grace met Ansari at an afterparty for the 2017 Emmy Awards and the two had a brief conversation about cameras and exchanged flirtatious remarks before Ansari asked for her phone number, which Grace provided.

After a week of exchanging text messages, Grace agreed to go on a date with the actor on September 25th.

While she initially felt excited about the date, the night ended with Grace crying in an Uber as she made her way home.

The day after the date, Ansari reached out to Grace via text message, saying “It was fun meeting you last night.”

Grace responded by expressing her discomfort with his behavior and how uneasy it made her feel. Ansari apologized and claimed he had “misread things.”

Babe was able to view the text exchange and confirmed that the phone number Grace was texting matched Ansari’s details on a public register.

Grace described the dinner date as being relatively short, as Ansari seemed eager to leave. The two then walked to Ansari’s apartment.

Once inside, Ansari began making sexual advances towards Grace.

She recalled complimenting his marble countertops and Ansari turning the compliment into an invitation by saying something along the lines of “How about you hop up and take a seat?” Within moments, he was kissing her and then undressing her and himself.

Grace said she felt uncomfortable with how quickly things escalated and when Ansari mentioned getting a condom within minutes of their first kiss, she voiced her hesitation and said “Whoa, let’s relax for a sec, let’s chill.”

Despite this, Ansari resumed kissing her and performed oral sex on her before asking her to do the same for him.

Grace complied but only for a short time, stating that “everything was pretty much touched and done within ten minutes of hooking up, except for actual sex.”

Grace went on to describe how ansari continued to touch her in a way that made her uncomfortable, including placing his fingers in a V-shape down her throat and inserting them into her vagina.

She also said that he repeatedly forced her hand onto his penis and suggested that they have sex, despite her expressing her discomfort both verbally and non-verbally.

Grace stated that “I know I was physically giving off cues that I wasn’t interested. I don’t think that was noticed at all, or if it was, it was ignored.”

She recalled ansari asking her repeatedly “Where do you want me to fuck you?” while she was still seated on the countertop.

Grace said she found the question difficult to answer because she didn’t want to have sex with him at all, stating “I wasn’t really even thinking of that, I didn’t want to be engaged in that with him.

But he kept asking, so I said, ‘Next time.’ And he goes, ‘Oh, you mean second date?’ and I go, ‘Oh, yeah, sure,’ and he goes, ‘Well, if I poured you another glass of wine now, would it count as our second date?’ He then poured her a glass and handed it to her.”

Feeling overwhelmed and distressed, Grace excused herself and went to the bathroom to try and compose herself.

When she returned, ansari asked if everything was okay and she told him “I don’t want to feel forced because then I’ll hate you, and I’d rather not hate you.”

Ansari apologized and said “it’s only fun if we’re both having fun.”

Grace assumed that the situation was resolved and agreed to “chill” on the couch with him, but as soon as she joined him, ansari sat back and motioned for her to perform oral sex on him.

Grace said she did as he asked but then gathered her belongings and left the apartment, feeling “violated.”

She described feeling “uncomfortable and distressed” throughout the entire encounter and said that she had given verbal and nonverbal cues that she was not interested in having sex with him.

Babe reached out to ansari for a comment on the allegations and he responded with the following statement: “In September of last year, I met a woman at a party. We exchanged numbers.

“We texted back and forth and eventually went on a date. We went out to dinner, and afterwards we ended up engaging in sexual activity, which by all indications was completely consensual.

“The next day, I got a text from her saying that although ‘it may have seemed okay,’ upon further reflection, she felt uncomfortable.

“It was true that everything did seem okay to me, so when I heard that it was not the case for her, I was surprised and concerned. I took her words to heart and responded privately after taking the time to process what she had said.

“I continue to support the movement that is happening in our culture. It is necessary and long overdue.”
