Olivia Hussey reveals she was raped at Charles Manson murder home

Olivia Hussey has disclosed that she was raped by her actor ex-boyfriend in the same house where Sharon Tate was killed by Charles Manson’s ‘family’ just months prior.

After receiving critical praise for her breakout role in 1968’s Romeo and Juliet, the actress began dating actor Christopher Jones, but the relationship quickly soured when he became abusive, hitting her in the stomach during one altercation, according to aceshowbiz.com.

In a new interview with People, she said, “We were talking and his eyes glazed over and he punched me in the stomach,” adding that she stayed with him despite the alleged assault. “I was young, and I loved him. I was very loyal.”

Jones had just divorced his wife Susan Strasberg, the daughter of legendary acting instructor Lee Strasberg, at the time.

Hussey said that she met Tate not long after, in 1969, who was pregnant and renting the house of Hussey’s agent Rudi Altobelli. Hussey intended to move into Altobelli’s guest home and assist Tate with her newborn.

‘I said to Sharon, ‘Rudi said we’re going to be best friends’,’ Hussey said of a phone call they had. ‘ She told me, ‘I’m so looking forward to meeting you, my baby is coming soon’. She was so sweet.’

But soon after, she received word that Tate and four other people had been slain while Altobelli was away.

“I’ll never forget Rudi telling me,” says Hussey. “He said, ‘They’re all dead.’ It was terrible.”

Hussey, who had mustered the guts to break up with Jones, moved into the house barely five weeks after the killings.

“People would say, ‘How could you live there?’” she recalls. “I’d say, ‘In England, most of the houses have horrible memories. It’s not that big of a deal.’”

“All I felt was Sharon’s vibration. And it was lovely,” Hussey says. “She’d left an orange scarf and I kept it on my prayer table for years.”

She also claimed that her ex showed up one night and assaulted her.

Hussey stated, ‘I didn’t know if he was going to kill me. My face was like a balloon. I had a bloody nose, my lip was split open, and I had a black eye. It was terrifying.’

Hussey said that she became pregnant following the incident, but that she had an abortion. In The Girl on the Balcony, she writes, “I decided I could not have the baby. It broke my heart… although I have never regretted it”.

Nonetheless, Hussey now claims that the silver lining was falling in love with Dean Paul Martin, the son of singer Dean Martin.

Hussey recalls, “I fell for him because of the way he treated me and took care of me.” Alex, the couple’s 45-year-old son, was born in 1971. They broke up in 1979, but stayed close until his death in an aircraft crash in 1987.
