Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage has been detained in New Orleans on charges of domestic violence and disrupting public order, as stated in police records.

Bail is set at $10,000 for the domestic violence charge and $1,000 for the public disturbance charge.

The date of Cage’s court appearance, 47, is not yet determined. As of Saturday afternoon, the actor remained in police custody.

The New Orleans Police Department reported that Cage was arguing with his spouse in front of a residence on Dumaine Street in the city’s French Quarter at 11:30 p.m. Friday, insisting that the house in question was their rented accommodation, according to Nola.com.

Authorities stated that Cage seized Kim by her upper arm and pulled her towards the house he thought they were renting, leaving no visible injuries on Kim’s arm.

Subsequently, the actor started hitting nearby vehicles and tried to enter a taxi. A police officer, noticing that Cage was heavily inebriated, ordered him out of the cab, which led to Cage shouting.

Cage allegedly asked the police, “Why don’t you just arrest me?”, as reported by gossip site TMZ.com.

TMZ also mentioned that Kim, who is not a complaining witness, does not want her husband charged and that witnesses claimed there was no physical contact between the couple.

Cage has been married to Kim, a former waitress, since July 30, 2004.

They have a son, Kal-El, born in 2005.

Throughout his extensive Hollywood career, Cage has received two Academy Award nominations, winning Best Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of a self-destructive alcoholic in 1995’s “Leaving Las Vegas.”

Born Nicolas Kim Coppola, Cage changed his name to avoid accusations of nepotism, as he is the nephew of famed film director Francis Ford Coppola.

Cage has previously been married to Patricia Arquette and Lisa Marie Presley.

During the incident outside the nightclub, Cage was recorded shouting: “I thought we were brothers, man,” and “I’ll die in the name of honor!”

TMZ has also reported that the actor is currently dealing with significant financial issues. A federal tax lien from 2009 revealed that Cage owes more than $6.7 million in taxes for 2008.

Cage’s ex-financial manager, Sam Levin, informed TMZ that Cage owns “15 luxurious homes worldwide, four yachts, a Gulfstream jet, and millions of dollars in jewelry and art.”

Earlier this week, Cage made headlines when a long-lost mint copy of Action Comics No. 1, featuring Superman’s debut, was found in a storage locker in San Fernando Valley.

The authenticated comic was stolen from Cage over a decade ago, according to Detective Don Hrycyk with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Art Theft Detail.

Cage received an insurance payment after the theft, so it is uncertain if he will reclaim his lost comic.
