Dakota Johnson accuses Ellen DeGeneres of lying in tense interview

Dakota Johnson’s confrontation with Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen Show has gained attention again after the news that the talk show will be ending after 19 seasons.

In the 2019 interview, DeGeneres accused Johnson of not inviting her to her birthday party, but the actress quickly corrected her, saying “that’s not the truth.” Johnson explained that she was unaware that DeGeneres even wanted to be invited.

The conversation continued to be awkward as the two discussed comedian Tig Notaro, who performed at Johnson’s party, and Johnson revealed that she left before Notaro’s performance.

“Last time I was on the show last year, you gave me a bunch of s*** about not inviting you, but I didn’t even know you wanted to be invited. I didn’t even know you liked me!” Johnson told DeGeneres.

The talk show host acted shocked and replied, “You knew I liked you. You’ve been on the show many times. Don’t I show…’like’?”

DeGeneres then checked with a crew member before saying she “had a thing” and joking that “it was probably in Malibu…that’s a bit too far for me to go.”

However, DeGeneres eventually admitted to remembering being invited to Johnson’s party, but stated that she “really didn’t remember that until just now.”

It was later revealed that DeGeneres missed the party because she was attending a Dallas Cowboys game with George W. Bush.

Johnson exclaimed “gosh, this isn’t going well!” as the conversation took more awkward turns.

The video of Johnson’s confrontation with DeGeneres has been shared on social media again, with many praising Johnson for standing up for herself.

One Twitter user wrote, “Can Dakota Johnson go on James Corden’s show next.”

The Ellen Show’s ratings have been at an all-time low, with a 59% loss of viewers in Los Angeles, as well as a 40% drop in ratings in New York City and Chicago over the past year.

Last year, actor Kevin T. Porter called DeGeneres “notoriously one of the meanest people alive” and created a Twitter thread for those who had similar experiences with the talk show host to share them.

DeGeneres addressed the accusations and made a public apology on her show.

In response to the news of The Ellen Show ending, @BridgetMarie tweeted, “It will NEVER not be funny to me that Ellen’s public downfall started when she lied about not being invited to Dakota Johnson’s party, when in reality she couldn’t come because she was at a football game with her good friend George W. Bush.”

DeGeneres has stated that she is no longer challenged by the show and told The Hollywood Reporter, “When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore.”

The Ellen Show will reportedly continue for one more season before ending at the end of this year.
