Minka Kelly rejected filming ‘Euphoria’ n-ked scene

Minka Kelly talked about her first day on the set of HBO’s Euphoria, and how she refused to do a n-ked scene.

The actress Minka Kelly admitted to Vanity Fair that she informed Sam Levinson, the show’s writer and director, that the script needed to be changed.

“Levinson thought it would be more interesting if my dress fell to the ground. That was my first day as a guest on this new show, and I just didn’t feel comfortable standing there n-ked,”  Kelly explained.

“I said, ‘I’d love to do this scene, but I think we can keep my dress on.’ He was like, ‘Okay!’ He didn’t even hesitate. And he shot a beautiful scene and got exactly what he wanted,” she said.

Samantha asked Maddy to help her unzip her purple dress in the scene in question, which occurred in the second episode of season two.

Several other cast members have described similar set experiences. Chloe Cherry, who plays Faye in Euphoria, was also going to film n-ked in her first scene. She was used to being in the spotlight as an adult performer, but a cast member objected to the gratuitous n-dity. She, too, acted without taking off her clothing.

Sydney Sweeney, who has recorded plenty of n-de scenes for HBO’s “Euphoria,” recently disclosed that she urged Levinson, 37, to remove some of them.

In a recent interview with the Independent, she noted, “There are moments where [my character] Cassie was supposed to be shirtless and I would tell Sam, ‘I don’t really think that’s necessary here.’”

“He was like, ‘OK, we don’t need it.’ I’ve never felt like Sam has pushed it on me or was trying to get a nude scene into an HBO show. When I didn’t want to do it, he didn’t make me.”

Sweeney also mentioned that on set of “Euphoria,” an intimacy coordinator aids the cast with X- rated scenes.

According to Kelly, Levinson’s desire to increase her presence on the program meant that he was regularly rewriting sequences and giving fresh screenplays and lines on the day those scenes were to be shot.

“That can be frustrating and can throw some people off, but I actually trust and feel safe with a director who’s not afraid to change his mind,” Kelly shared. “At the end of the day, the goal is what ends up onscreen. We’re all here to facilitate his vision.”

Rue, who is played by Zendaya, is a recovering drug addict in Euphoria. The story follows her as she and her classmates battle with relationships and mental health.
