Miley Cyrus must have heard our question, “What will she wear next?” and responded with, well, nothing.

This year’s MTV Video Music Awards are being hosted by Cyrus, and she made quite an appearance on the red carpet. Cyrus donned a strapless gown with extensive hair extensions, which she was delighted to flip for cameras afterwards, making good on a promise to change her wardrobe numerous times as host.

The hardest-twerking lady in business presented the Music Awards in a collection of Jeremy Scott pieces that resembled DIY projects on steroids.

The actress wore a crystal-effect miniskirt and two carefully placed silver straps over her chest—we use the term “skirt” loosely because it’s actually just two pieces of blinged-out macramé barely concealing her front and buttocks. Miley is virtually nude.

Cyrus’ entire family was present, including her father, Billy Ray Cyrus. Miley received a hug from her father, who vowed to live-tweet his daughter’s first-ever VMA hosting performance.

Tom Fitzgerald, proprietor of the Tom + Lorenzo fashion and lifestyle site, remarked, “I expected it to be a clown show, and she did not disappoint. She showed up looking like an S&M disco-ball ‘Barbarella.’

Among other stars present was Taylor Swift, who was joined by Selena Gomez and Cara Delevingne in a ladies posse. She performed alongside Nicki Minaj in a short, showgirl red outfit, later wearing a dazzling, midriff-baring trouser suit with an exaggerated houndstooth motif in bronze and silver.

When Miley appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on August 26, the actress offered us a sneak peek at her boob-baring VMA outfits to come. Miley wore a pair of heart-shaped pasties, which went well with her shimmering rainbow ensemble and left host Jimmy Kimmel stunned.

“To tell you the truth, I’m a little chilly.” She joked to the comedian, “You know, I would have worn a shirt—actually, I wouldn’t have.” She also said that she travels with “a lot of tape,” so the narrow straps she’s wearing tonight aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Jeremy Scott, who designed the Moonman trophy for the Oscars, wore tuxedo tails that matched the red, yellow, green, and pink stripes on the arrival carpet. Gigi Hadid, another “it” girl who’s had a successful year as a model, wore a yellow dress with a front opening that revealed matching shorty shorts.

Miley walked the stage wearing a shower curtain with deliberately placed dots, a daisy bolero over a glittery jumpsuit, and a pair of half-lidded eyeballs with feathery lashes covering her breasts, among other looks.

Then there was the bralette fashioned like a pair of half-lidded eyes with fluffy pink lashes, or the rainbow-striped rectangle.

Phillip Bloch, a celebrity stylist, remarked, “Her outfits are so crazy and wild. Trying to keep up with them is like going on a 1960s hallucinogenic trip, and I love her for having the balls to wear them.”

The VMAs are noted for their extravagant fashion, both couture and informal. FKA Twigs wore a sultry black spiderweb gown, while Minaj wore a seductive bronze illusion gown that made her appear like a statuette herself.

Pregnant Kim Kardashian walked alongside Kanye West in a tight tan gown with loose laces in the front, showing off her baby bulge. West wore loose gray sweatpants that were bunched up. His shirt’s very long sleeves didn’t stop him from holding her stomach.

Britney Spears smiled for the cameras in a short sparkly dress and high Barbie ponytail colored purple at the ends.

Justin Bieber had a fantastic time on the carpet, grinning for cameras in ripped jeans, his hair unkempt over one eye.

“I like your swoop,” Cyrus said of Bieber’s hair as she opened the event wearing a floral shrug over a wide-legged, rainbow glitter jumpsuit with a low front cut.
