After getting spanked with a Mexican flag on the country’s independence day, Miley Cyrus has become the subject of an official complaint.

The 21-year-old twerked her way through a gig in Monterey, Mexico, on Tuesday night, sporting a ridiculously huge prosthetic bottom and engaging in her now-standard twerking antics.

One of the two dancers contorting behind Cyrus used a Mexican flag to slap the enormous, fake buttocks she was wearing while she was “twerking” in the middle of a song.

According to TMZ, officials in the nation are not pleased with the star’s behavior.

The Mexican state legislature has asked the Mexican federal government to sanction the singer.

“She or her team could be fined up to the equivalent of around $1,200 or be detained for 36 hours,” said local lawmaker Francisco Trevino.

Trevino continued: “They are hitting her with the flag, or cleaning her backside. It’s a lack of respect.”

Officials in Mexico are particularly sensitive to any desecration of their flag. Paulina Rubio, a musician, was penalized six years ago for posing naked with the country’s flag wrapped over her.

Let’s face it, Miley Cyrus isn’t going to jail anytime soon for anything like this, but she might have chosen a better day to ‘desecrate’ the flag than Mexican Independence Day. And this, unlike the United States, in a country where disrespecting the national flag is illegal.

Also, if anything comes of this, it’s much more likely that the concert producer, rather than Miley herself, will be sanctioned.

Cyrus would not be the first singer to face charges for something like this if he is charged.

This isn’t the first time Cyrus has elicited a retaliation from a government official. After a commission on the singer found she “undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law,” a September date for the singer in the Dominican Republic was canceled on “moral grounds.”

Last year, Cyrus was chastised for her appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York, where she donned a latex bra and leggings, stuck her tongue out, and “twerked” with Robin Thicke.
