Miles Teller And Shailene Woodley Hated Kissing Each Other in “The Spectacular Now”

Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller met on the set of the 2013 teen film The Spectacular Now, and their professional partnership started there. They portray the stereotypical “opposites attract” characters who fall in love unexpectedly. These two went on to portray antagonists in the dystopian science fiction Divergent series.

Teller portrays Sutter, a high school senior who has just broken up with his girlfriend, Cassidy (Brie Larson), and is starting the process of drafting college entrance essays in The Spectacular Now. He wants to rekindle his relationship with Cassidy, but things take a turn when he learns she’s moved on to another man and later meets Aimee (Woodley). The two rapidly begin a relationship, which continues throughout the film despite Sutter and Aimee’s various problems.

On the surface, “The Spectacular Now” may seem to be simply another adolescent romance film, but it is much more complex, delving into issues such as the anxiety of graduating from high school, alcoholism, family relationships, and more. Nonetheless, the narrative revolves on an adolescent romance, which means there will be the customary first kiss – as well as several more kissing sequences.

The performers essentially acknowledged to tormenting each other during those private moments in a 2013 interview with Vulture. Teller said that he insisted on drinking Gatorade before each kiss, which irritated Woodley. “She would be like, ‘Are you serious? You’re gonna kiss me after that?'” he recalled. “I was like, ‘Yeah, I am.'”

Woodley, on the other hand, didn’t let Teller get away with any of his antagonizing antics. Teller said that her herbal pills, which she took shortly before the lip-locking moments, disgusted him. Teller claims that “…they tasted like crap … We put stuff in our mouths so we could just offend each other.”

In an interview with Variety, Miles Teller said, “Before our first kissing scene, Shailene took these Chinese dirt supplements and shoved them in her mouth. It’s like a dirt pouch, and it smells like crap.” While Woodley’s terrible breath is unrelated to her hygiene, she could have kept the vitamins for later — or at the very least cleaned her mouth.

Woodley has discussed on “Late Show with David Letterman” that she is no stranger to eating clay, explaining that various cultures ingest it for its health benefits: “Clay is one of my favorites because if you look at indigenous cultures around the world, people are eating clay almost daily. It’s just a part of their diet” (via Today). Woodley’s health conscience, unfortunately for Teller, did not make for the finest kissing scene partner.

Teller’s sugar taste was also a source of contention for Woodley. She griped that he would “taste like processed food” if he ate a Honey Bun before one of their kiss moments. “You’re literally biting a raw onion before this because it helps your digestion, but I can’t eat a Honey Bun,” Tiles joked.

Teller’s stories regarding their tongue-twisting woes were validated by Woodley. “It was just this ongoing back-and-forth,” she said.

How Shailene Woodley and Aaron Rodgers kept their engagement a secret

Aaron Rodgers and Shailene Woodley devised a strategy to keep their engagement a secret for as long as possible so they could enjoy this wonderful time in private.

During his MVP winning speech in February, the NFL quarterback disclosed that he was engaged. On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon two weeks later, the Big Little Lies actress confirmed the news.

The happy couple wants control over the information about their relationship that is made public.

“When we announced that we were engaged, we wanted to do that only because we didn’t want someone else to do it before we did,” she said to The Hollywood Reporter.

“And we didn’t do it for months and months after we had become engaged, but the reaction to it was really a lot, and so we were like, ‘Let’s just politely decline [to talk about the relationship] for a little while and live in our little bubble.'”

According to the magazine, the two met via mutual acquaintances, both artists, and became closer throughout the epidemic, moving in together and going back and forth between California and Wisconsin within a few months.

“You could travel, but you had masks on,” Woodley recalled. “There was a sense of anonymity that otherwise I don’t think we would have had. We were really able to get to know one another the way we wanted to get to know one another and not have any noise or chaos around us.”

Fans of the pair were taken aback earlier this year when Aaron announced his engagement to Shailene to the world.

“It’s an honor to win this award for the third time,” he said while making a virtual appearance to accept the 2020 MVP.

“2020 was definitely a crazy year filled with lots of change and growth, some amazing memorable moments.

“180 straight days of having my nose hair scraped, playing for very little fans or no stands the entire season.”

Woodley said last month that she and Rodgers moved in together as soon as they began dating. “Starting a relationship where you immediately move in with someone—because it’s a pandemic and you can’t just get on a plane and go back and forth on weekends—taught us a lot about each other very quickly. We jumped in headfirst and got some of the sticky bits out of the way early,” the actress said.

Love triumphs above everything for these two. “I have the perspective that I would have met Aaron in any context, any space in time because I feel we were meant to be together,” Woodley said.
