Representatives for actor Michael Douglas have denied reports that the actor claimed he got cancer from cunnilingus in an interview.

The Guardian had reported that the 68-year-old actor, who is currently receiving critical praise for his role in “Behind The Candelabra”, claimed that his stage-four cancer was caused by the HPV virus he caught from performing oral s**.

However, Allen Burry, a spokesman for the Wall Street actor, said Douglas was talking about the roots of throat cancer and mentioned that one of the causes was oral s**, but he said the actor was not specifically referring to his own diagnosis.

Michael Douglas has been battling throat cancer since 2010.

At the time, the actor had cited a combination of alcohol and tobacco use as the cause of his illness.

In the recent interview, Douglas was asked if heavy smoking and drinking caused his throat cancer.

He replied: “No.

Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus.”

Oral s** can be a risk factor for throat cancer.

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in 2011 found that people with oral HPV infections had a 12.6-fold increased risk of developing oropharyngeal cancer.

Oropharyngeal cancer affects the base of the tongue, the tonsils, the soft palate and the walls of the pharynx.

HPV is a common s**ually transmitted infection.

According to the World Health Organization, HPV is the most common s**ually transmitted infection globally.

An estimated 80% of s**ually active people will contract the virus at some point in their lives.

Most people with HPV do not develop symptoms and the virus goes away on its own.
