Melissa McCarthy recalls ‘awkward’ s** talk with daughter

Actress Melissa McCarthy has opened up about her “awkward” attempt to have the s** talk with her daughters, saying she wants to do it better next time.

On a recent episode of the “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast, the Oscar nominee recounted how she decided to initiate the conversation with her 15-year-old daughter Vivian before she learned about it in school.

Notably, she chose to do so while cleaning up after the family dog in the backyard.

McCarthy’s younger daughter, Georgette, is 12.

However, the conversation didn’t go as smoothly as she would have liked, and McCarthy admitted it was “incredibly awkward.”

Vivian’s initial reaction was, “Oh dear God, is this happening?”

McCarthy said she fumbled for words, telling her daughter that there are “different parts of bodies… uh,” but managed to get through it despite feeling uncomfortable.

The “Bridesmaids” star went on to say that she wants to maintain open communication with both daughters so they’ll feel comfortable coming to her with “anything.”

She acknowledged that there is still a part of her that feels like a “midwestern former Catholic person” who believes that talking about s** will bring down a lightning bolt.

McCarthy also revealed that she and her husband Ben Falcone have had smoother conversations with their children about dating.

They encourage their kids to choose partners who are “incredibly kind and respectful and only lift [them] up,” and who will be happy for them when they succeed and supportive when they fail.

She noted that if those roles ever get switched, it’s a “big red flag” that something isn’t right.

McCarthy and Falcone, who co-starred in “Enough Said,” tied the knot in 2005.

Vivian and Georgette were born in 2007 and 2010, respectively.

McCarthy recently marked her husband’s 49th birthday on Instagram, calling him the “most wonderful weirdo” she knows.

While McCarthy’s first attempt at the s** talk was admittedly awkward, it’s clear that she’s committed to being open and honest with her daughters about important topics like relationships and sexuality.

By modeling healthy communication and setting clear expectations for how they should be treated by others, she’s giving her kids the tools they need to navigate a complex world.
