Mayim Bialik Was ‘Shocked’ when Jim Parsons pitched her new sitcom Call Me Kat

Mayim Bialik was taken aback when Jim Parsons, her former on-screen spouse on The Big Bang Theory, expressed interest in working with her again.

The two were on-screen lovers in the iconic CBS sitcom from 2007 through the last episode, which aired in 2019.

While fans may have anticipated the couple to go their own ways once Big Bang ended, they instead collaborated on Fox’s new comedy Call Me Kat.

Parsons’ production business is behind the program, and Bialik told UsWeekly that she was “totally shocked” when he approached her about acting in it.

‘I thought he was just asking my opinion because we were friends and we have a lot of similar tastes,’ she told US Weekly. ‘I was like, “That sounds great. I totally think that’s a great idea!”

‘He was like, ‘No, Mayim. I’m telling you about this because I want you to play her.’

“I was totally shocked that Jim Parsons wanted to still work with me. I think I’m very annoying, but he apparently thinks I’m not as annoying as I think I am, because he wanted to work with me!”

Mayim Bialik must have had a lot of fun with that conversation twist. It’s one thing to listen to a friend’s fantastic idea, but it’s quite another to understand that cool concept may be your next big job in the near future. Of course, Call Me Kat’s primary character has a lot in common with the actress, so it was probably easy to figure out, but those parallels were probably built over time rather than being obvious right away. In any case, according to Bialik, the interaction finally led to the best job she’s ever had.

Bialik plays a 39-year-old single woman who quits her work to create a cat cafe in Call Me Kat, which aired on Monday night.

Bialik, 45, is a cat enthusiast who was immediately drawn to the part of Kat, whom she describes as “a true woman.”

‘This is a show about a woman who I hope other women and men will look at and say, ‘Oh, there’s women like that, and they can be funny, can be quirky’,’ said the actress.

Swoosie Kurtz, Leslie Jordan, Kyla Pratt, Julian Gant, and Cheyenne Jackson are among the cast members.

Mayim Bialik and Jim Parsons have collaborated on a program other than Big Bang Theory and Call Me Kat, for what it’s worth. For the Season 4 premiere of Young Sheldon, the actress made a voiceover appearance in a flash-forward reprisal of her beloved character Amy. Perhaps a fourth project for the two to collaborate on will arrive in 2021.
