Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood arrested for rape
Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood has been arrested on suspicion of breaching his bail conditions.
The 21-year-old striker was first arrested on 30 January 2022 on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman, and was later arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.
To date, no charges have been brought against him.
Greenwood’s arrest was made at his mansion home in Bowdon, Greater Manchester.
Greater Manchester Police released a statement, confirming the arrest and stated that the investigation was ongoing.

In June 2022, a court hearing was held regarding Greenwood’s bail position, and a statement from Greater Manchester Police confirmed that he remained on bail.
The statement also indicated that no further updates on the case would be provided until the suspect was charged or released facing no further action.
Originally from Bradford, Greenwood was due to answer bail on 30 April 2022 but Greater Manchester Police stated that an application would be made to the courts to extend his bail.
No date for the bail to run out was given in the wake of the court hearing.
Greenwood has been suspended from Manchester United since their Premier League fixture against West Ham on 22 January 2022 and has not played for the club since.
The club released a previous statement, indicating that Greenwood remains a club player but is not part of the squad while the legal process unfolds.
Manchester United has not commented on the reports of Greenwood’s recent arrest.
In addition to being suspended from Manchester United, Nike has also confirmed that their partnership with Greenwood has ended.
In reference to the alleged breach of bail conditions, Greater Manchester Police stated: “Greater Manchester Police are aware of an allegation regarding a 21-year-old man breaching his bail conditions and an arrest has been made. Enquiries are ongoing at this time.”
It is unclear at this time what the outcome of the investigation will be and what impact it will have on Greenwood’s career.
However, the police statement confirms that they are actively investigating the matter and that the outcome of bail reviews will not impact the progression of the investigation.
