Lil Nas X accidentally ‘rips pants’ during steamy ‘Montero’ performance on ‘SNL’

Last night, while performing on the newest edition of Saturday Night Live, Lil Nas X had an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction.

The incident occurred while performing his controversial song Montero. The singer, who was clad in an all-leather outfit with a flame design, began dancing on a pole near the end of the song, replicating a moment from the video. The seam of his trousers split when he squatted down. He completed the song after giving the crowd an embarrassed look.

He got up and covered his pelvis with his hand, which he kept there for the rest of the show.

Lil Nas X says his “Saturday Night Live” debut was “my favorite night of my career.”

The Atlanta rapper, born Montero Lamar Hill, starred in the Season 46 finale with Anya Taylor-Joy. Lil Nas X also performed his new track “Sun Goes Down” as the musical guest. He performed the song into a bejeweled microphone in a white suit.

“NOT MY PANTS RIPPED ON LIVE ON TV,” the musician joked on Twitter after the show aired.

“OMFG NO,” he said in a follow-up post.

In a third Twitter message, he stated, “I wanted to do my pole routine so bad this is what I get lmaoo.”

The Satan imagery used by Lil Nas X irritates parents. However, supporters argue that critics are missing the point.

Some conservative fans were offended by the music video for “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” because it appeared to make parallels to biblical characters. He defended himself against criticism and addressed worried parents by saying, “I am not gonna spend my entire career trying to cater to your children. That is your job.”

Reflecting upon the incident on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, he said: “I was pretty much going down the pole, you know, doing my little sexy drop-down, and boom: I feel air. I was like, ‘OK, there’s definitely a breeze going on.’ And I also feel, like, some popping still happening while I was down there. I was like, ‘Oh god, I hope it’s not…’

He continued: “I was like, ‘Just please don’t be on TV already,’ you know? And SNL is actually live, so… You know what the worst part is? At the end of the performance, the dancers are supposed to touch me and tug on me or whatever, and they were tugging on the pants, and I was like, ‘Please stop.’ […] I couldn’t say it because I would ruin the performance, like, ‘Guys, stop, please,’ but I couldn’t say it.”

Many on the crew and among his backup dancers didn’t grasp what had transpired after the performance concluded, and informed Lil Nas X he needed to leave the stage for the event to continue.

“They’re like, ‘Come on, Nas. You have to get ready for the next performance,’ ” he said. “I’m like, ‘I literally cannot leave, or everybody here will see everything. … Please bring me a towel.’ ”

Taylor-Joy, who stars in “The Queen’s Gambit” hosted Saturday’s program, which she said was the first time SNL had a full crowd this year.

“If you’re feeling nervous sitting so close to another person, just picture them naked. But just kidding, we’ve all been inside for a year, everybody’s already picturing everyone naked,” Taylor-Joy joked.

Chris Rock made an appearance as a special guest.

To coincide with the release of Montero (Call Me By Your Name), the singer created 666 pairs of ‘satan shoes,’ which were crafted using modified Nike Air Max 97s and had one drop of human blood. Nike filed a lawsuit alleging trademark infringement and dilution.

A judge stopped MSCHF, the shoe’s manufacturer, from shipping out the $1,018 trainers to buyers before they could be distributed. Within minutes of being on sale, all pairs of sneakers were sold out.
