Letitia Wright deletes social media accounts After Anti-Vaccine Video Backlash

After facing heat for uploading an anti-vaccine video, Letitia Wright appears to have deactivated her social media accounts.

Wright deleted both her Twitter and Instagram accounts just days after sharing a link to a 70-minute YouTube video by a coronavirus vaccination skeptic. Fellow Twitter users chastised the actress after the video she shared raised reservations about the in-development Covid-19 vaccinations, which will begin rolling out in the United Kingdom next week. Despite admitting to have little medical understanding of immunizations, On The Table presenter Tomi Arayomi questions the possible antidote in the video.

“I don’t understand vaccines medically, but I’ve always been a little bit of a skeptic of them,” he remarked at the opening of the video.

YouTube has also taken down the video in question after it was found to be in violation of its rules of service.

Wright was chastised for not only sharing the video but also for defending her decision to do so.

She blamed her detractors for calling her out for uploading the video, which included what appeared to be transphobic sentiments.

“If you don’t conform to popular opinions. but ask questions and think for yourself…you get cancelled,” Wright stated in a now-deleted tweet from Friday.

The Guyanese-British actor, best known for his role as tech prodigy Shuri in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), subsequently commented that the purpose of sharing the link was solely to raise concerns about the vaccine’s potential side effects.

“my ONLY intention of posting the video was it raised my concerns with what the vaccine contains and what we are putting in our bodies,” she wrote. “Nothing else.”

Now, Wright’s entire Twitter account appears to have been erased, with a “This account doesn’t exist” signal appearing when searching for it using the username @LetitiaWright. Her Instagram account looks to have been deactivated as well.

Don Cheadle, Wright’s Marvel Cinematic Universe co-star, was also brought into the debate, declaring that he would “never defend anybody posting this.”

“Jesus… just scrolled through. hot garbage. every time i stopped and listened, he and everything he said sounded crazy and fkkkd up,” Cheadle wrote. “i would never defend anybody posting this. but i still won’t throw her away over it. the rest i’ll take off twitter. had no idea.”

After being approved by the MHRA, Pfizer–BioNTech will begin to be distributed in the UK at the beginning of this week (December 8). When given in two doses, the vaccination can provide up to 95% protection.

Stephen Powis, the medical director of NHS England, has indicated that vaccinating everyone in the UK will take “many months,” describing it as a “marathon, not a sprint.” Healthcare professionals, the over 80s and care home staff are likely to be the first to receive the vaccination.
