Leonardo DiCaprio conspired with paparazzi to hide his smoking from his mom in the 1990s

In the past, Leonardo DiCaprio had colluded with the media to conceal his smoking habit from his mother, Irmelin Indenbirken.

Leonardo DiCaprio, an Oscar winner, is recognized for being one of the most charming personalities working in Hollywood right now, but he is also known for his love of smoking. By the age of 20, the actor was a cigarette addict, and he was frequently seen smoking by photographers. It has now become a frequent sight for fans anytime Leonardo’s images of him vaping go viral on the internet,. The Revenant actor has stopped smoking cigarettes and switched to vaping.

According to Page Six, the actor reportedly requested a photographer not to publish a picture of him because he didn’t want his mother to know he smoked.

He’s made no secret of his passion of vaping, having brazenly puffed on his e-cigarette while seated in the crowd at the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

But back in the 1990s, the 45-year-old well-known actor was far more cautious.

Steve Eichner is about to publish a book called Limelight: The Visual Ecstacy of NYC Nightlife. The photographer told Page Six that he had photographed Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp buying smokes from a street vendor in the 1990s.

DiCaprio, who just co-starred in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape with Johnny Depp, was caught on camera buying smokes at a party at NYC’s Club USA.

“[DiCaprio] came over and tapped me on the shoulder,” Eichner said of the actor approaching him after he took a photo of him.

“[DiCaprio] said, ‘Hey man, can you do me a favor and please don’t use that photo? You can take photos of me tonight,’” Eichner said, noting that DiCaprio added, “‘I was buying cigarettes and I don’t want my mom to know that I smoke.’”

The Revenant actor is well-known for his strong relationship with his mother, Irmelin, who is also an actress and producer.

This isn’t the first time someone has mentioned Leo’s covert smoking habit. Johnny Depp, another actor, has also made fun of DiCaprio.

In the year 2016, Johnny Depp joked onstage at the International Santa Barbara Film Festival that he wouldn’t even offer Leonardo a drag from his cigarette while he hides from his mother again.

Irmelin, Leo’s mother, collaborated with her son on the 2007 documentary The 11th Hour, which focused on the current state of the natural environment and the effects of global warming and climate change.

Leonardo, on the other hand, persuaded The Batman actor Robert Pattinson to give up smoking. The Twilight star also had a cigarette addiction that he was able to manage. The actor has switched to e-cigarettes, whilst Leo has continued to vape.
