Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff, who co-starred in the s**ually charged “Spring Awakening” musical on Broadway 15 years ago, have remained close.

In the upcoming HBO documentary “Spring Awakening: Those You’ve Known,” Michele reveals that she once showed Groff her genitals.

She explained, “Jonathan and I became so close. We were so intertwined.

“At one point, I literally showed him my whole vagina.

“He was like, ‘I’ve never seen a woman’s vag|na before. Would you show me?’ And I was like, ‘Sure.’ And I took a desk lamp … and showed him. That’s how close we are.”

Groff confirmed her story and added that he had never seen Michele’s anatomy before.

Michele and Groff were 19 and 21, respectively, when they played angsty and ill-fated teenagers in the coming-of-age musical.

They were learning about their bodies and sexualities both on and offstage, and they had to engage in an intimate s** scene.

Groff, who was still figuring out his own s**ual orientation at the time, said, “Lea and I were given this material where we had to fall in love.

“But the first thing I felt was, ‘They’re going to know I’m gay. F–k.

“I never had s** with a girl. I’m in the closet.

“I’m just going to pretend that I know what I’m doing.'”

The two actors had to establish an intimacy offstage to do the s** scene justice.

“I’m so grateful that we connected in the way that we did so that we were then able to go on the stage and then have that level of trust,” Michele told People.

“If we didn’t, I think it would’ve been really impossible and just so challenging to have to tackle that material every night with someone that you don’t feel that safety and trust with.”

Michele and Groff continued their friendship after the show ended, and they both landed roles on the hit series “Glee.” They became even closer during the show’s six-year run, and Michele, who welcomed son Ever with husband Zandy Reich in August 2020, has offered to be Groff’s surrogate if he decides he wants a baby.

The documentary, which debuts on May 3, explores the creation of the groundbreaking musical and its impact on the lives of its cast and fans.

Michele and Groff are among the actors who share their memories of the show in the film.

“Spring Awakening” premiered off-Broadway in 2006 and moved to Broadway the following year.

The show won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and launched the careers of several of its stars.

Michele, who has been in the news recently for her alleged behavior on the set of “Glee,” has not commented on the documentary or her friendship with Groff.

However, Groff has spoken about the importance of their connection during “Spring Awakening” and beyond.

“I think that Lea and I were a good example of how you can be a really close friend and yet not be romantically involved or s**ually involved,” he said in a 2019 interview with The Advocate.

Michele has also been open about her struggles with grief and loss.

Her former “Glee” co-star, Cory Monteith, died of a drug overdose in 2013, and her boyfriend at the time, Matthew Paetz, died of a drug overdose in 2018.

Michele has said that she turned to alcohol after Monteith’s death and sought therapy to deal with her grief.
