Kim Kardashian calls out tabloids for Body Shaming and Bullying Her While Pregnant

After watching the Hulu documentary about Britney Spears’ turbulent career and media scrutiny, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star went to Instagram on Friday, March to commiserate with the famous pop artist and her maltreatment at the hands of the entertainment business.

Kim recently spoke out about her own experience with public humiliation, saying she “completely empathizes” with Britney, after viewing the documentary “Framing Britney Spears.”

The SKIMS founder, 40, stated that she suffered from preeclampsia, a hypertensive illness, when pregnant with her first daughter, North West, who is now 7 years old, in a long message posted on her Instagram account.

Kardashian said this in a series of Instagram Stories posts. “The way the media played a big role in her life the way it did can be very traumatising and it can really break even the strongest person.

“No matter how public someone’s life may seem, no one deserves to be treated with such cruelty or judgement for entertainment.”

The E! star couldn’t help but relate to the relentless media scrutiny and scathing tabloid criticism that Spears has endured over the years.

She uploaded a few covers, with headlines like “Dumped at 200 Lbs,” “I’ll Never Be Sexy Again,” “I Can’t Stop Eating,” “Paid To Get Fat,” “Don’t Call Me Fat,” “I’ll Eat As Much As I Want,” “Alone & Binge Eating,” “Yes, I’m Fat,” “Kim’s Body Struggle,” “You Call This Fat” and “My Butt Won’t Stop Growing.”

“Looking back at my own experiences, I remember a time when I felt this way,” Kim continued. “When I was pregnant with North I was suffering from preeclampsia, which made me swell uncontrollably. I gained 60 lbs and delivered almost 6 weeks early and I cried every single day over what was happening to my body mainly from the pressures of being constantly compared to what society considered a healthy pregnant person should look like – as well as being compared to Shamu the Whale by the media.

“Looking at all of the photos of myself and in magazines made me so insecure and I had this fear of wondering if I would ever get my pre baby body back. I was shamed on a weekly basis with cover stories that made my insecurities so painful I couldn’t leave the house for months after. It really broke me.”

While Kardashian claimed that she was able to utilize the experience and her “frustrating, embarrassing feelings” to encourage herself, she also said that it would “be a lie” if she said it “didn’t take a toll on me mentally.”

“You just never fully know what someone is going through behind the scenes and I’ve learned through my own experiences that it’s always better to lead with kindness,” she wrote.

Following its February 2021 debut, “Framing Britney Spears” has sparked a massive web of controversy, with numerous fans and celebrities, including Kardashian West, revisiting past wrongdoings.

Since the documentary debuted, a number of other celebrities, including child star Mara Wilson and Paris Hilton, have compared their own experiences to Spears.

The bottom line for Kim is that the media must demonstrate compassion and empathy, whether it’s for her, Britney, or anybody else.
