Kim Basinger feared her Oscars dress would ‘fall off’ after wardrobe malfunction

Kim Basinger recently took a trip down memory lane to her time at the 71st Academy Awards, which took place in 1999.

The event holds a special place in her heart for various reasons, one of which is almost suffering a wardrobe malfunction.

The actress shared pictures from the event on her social media account and took the opportunity to recall the moment.

Basinger explained that she was presenting the award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role to the late James Coburn.

As she stood behind the three-story spinning Oscar statue, she noticed a guy counting down on his fingers while wearing a headset.

However, just before he reached zero, she heard a loud pop coming from the back of her floor-length Randolph Duke gown.

“I was shaking and mortified,” Basinger wrote, “but I took the stage and clutched my arms to my sides as tightly as I could, praying that the dress wouldn’t fall off.”

She went on to say that she managed to hold up the dress all the way through the award presentation.

Basinger added some interesting facts about the preparations for the red carpet in her caption.

She mentioned that most of the time, the people walking the red carpet are sewn into their gowns just moments before making their appearance.

The top fear for those walking the carpet, according to Basinger, is falling down, followed closely by the fear of the stitches not holding.

The actress, who won her first Oscar in 1998 for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in L.A. Confidential, stated that she is grateful that she was able to avoid a potentially embarrassing moment.

In another recent post, Basinger announced that her daughter, Ireland Baldwin, is expecting a baby girl.

The first-time mother-to-be is due in June, and Basinger expressed her excitement at meeting the new addition to their family.

She wrote, “Like mother, like daughter… and a new baby girl coming our way. So looking forward to meeting this little Snoopy in June.”
