Kate Hudson’s Father Publicly Slammed Her for Still Using His Last Name
Kate Hudson’s father, Bill Hudson, publicly expressed his disapproval of his children still using his last name in 2015.
The actor has always had a rocky relationship with her biological father, and considers Kurt Russell, Goldie Hawn’s long-time partner, to be her dad.
In fact, she even called her biological father’s abandonment a “blessing” before Bill Hudson gave an emotional interview telling Kate and her brother, Oliver Hudson, to stop using his last name.
Bill Hudson and Goldie Hawn were married from 1976 to 1982.
They welcomed Oliver Hudson in 1976, and then Kate Hudson in 1979.

After their divorce, Bill Hudson was reportedly largely absent from the kids’ lives, leading Russell to raise them alongside Hawn.
(Russell and Hawn had a son in 1986.)
In a February 2016 interview on Jenny McCarthy’s SiriusXM show, Kate Hudson mentioned that the abandonment by Bill Hudson and her subsequent estrangement from him was a blessing.
She holds no resentment towards him.
She also recognized how hard it must be to not have a good relationship with your children.
She forgives him for whatever issues he has.
However, in 2015, Bill Hudson had strong words for his kids with Hawn.
In two separate interviews, the musician slammed his kids for the Father’s Day posts they shared on Instagram.
Oliver Hudson shared a throwback photo of the three of them captioned, “Happy abandonment day,” which he told Larry King in 2018 was just supposed to be “darkly comedic.”
For her part, Kate Hudson shared a photo of her and Russell, whom she and Oliver call “Pa.” In an interview with The Daily Mail, Bill Hudson said his two kids were “dead” to him and that Hawn “poisoned” them against him.
He said that he is now a father of three, no longer recognizes Oliver and Kate as his own, and asked them to stop using the Hudson name.
He also claimed that Hawn made it impossible for him to see his kids, and that he never abandoned his family.
Kate expressed interest in reconciling old wounds with her siblings in an episode of their Sibling Revelry podcast that aired on Jan. 8, 2021.
She thought about their sisters and brothers whom they don’t spend any time with lately.
