Julia Roberts felt shy sleeping with Richard Gere

Julia Roberts, the star of the iconic 1990s movie, Pretty Woman, has spoken out about how uncomfortable she felt filming some of the movie’s intimate scenes with co-star Richard Gere.

The movie made Roberts a superstar after only making two films earlier in her career, but she has now revealed that she suffered from hives due to the stress of the love scenes.

“Anyone who’s experienced hives knows it’s a rash usually triggered by food allergies, medications, or stress.

In Roberts’ case, it was apparently stress, unless she had some foods she was eating she didn’t know she was allergic to”, explains a recent report.

Despite her discomfort, Roberts says that she felt supported by the rest of the cast and crew, who became like a close family.

However, Roberts’ discomfort on the set of Pretty Woman was not limited to the love scenes.

She admits that she was a little nervous about playing the role of Vivian Ward, a Hollywood prostitute.

Roberts revealed that she would have turned down the role had the original script stayed intact, which was a much darker movie about sex workers in Tinseltown.

“It kind of went against my values”, she says.

Roberts’ discomfort on the set of Pretty Woman was not surprising given her relative inexperience at the time.

More established actresses who auditioned for the role of Vivian felt that the part was beneath them. Ironically, the fact that Vivian was a prostitute added a meta element to Roberts’ discomfort.

Roberts’ hives story was not widely known until recent years, and she is now discussing the experience more openly as the movie’s 30th anniversary approaches.

The movie continues to be referenced in pop culture, and Roberts’ fans are eager to hear what else she will reveal about filming Pretty Woman.

One other thing Roberts has spoken about is that she was originally attached to the gritty version of the script.

The movie was called 3000 then, and the story had Gere’s character dumping Vivian in the streets at the end.

Roberts said “she had no business being in a film like that” and would have been had the film gone ahead.

However, the production company behind it was shut down, and it transferred over to Disney and Garry Marshall for the revamp.

Despite the success of Pretty Woman, Roberts said she would still never do a movie that gritty, proving that actresses don’t have to play a prostitute to win an Oscar.

While the film had a happy ending, it is clear that Roberts’ experiences while filming were less than ideal.

“It’s worth going back and seeing how nervous she was filming that movie in 1989-90. In recent years, the things she said she experienced might make everyone view Pretty Woman with different eyes the next time it’s seen on cable”, concludes the report.
