Jennifer Lawrence says naked sex scenes were an “actual nightmare” on ‘Red Sparrow’ set

Jennifer Lawrence has spoken out about the nude scenes in her new film Red Sparrow, revealing that they were an “actual nightmare.”

The actress will appear in the espionage thriller when it hits theaters at the end of the week, and you’ve surely heard by now that J-Law had to strip naked for the role.

Lawrence may be one of the world’s most confident movie actresses, but she, too, has her insecurities.

Lawrence admitted in a recent interview with Australia’s Today Show that signing up for the film was “really scary” since she knew she would be committing to totally naked sex scenes.

She admitted that she was conflicted about the decision after nude images from her phone were seized and released online.

“It was really scary to say yes to the movie because I knew the only way to tell the story is if I agreed to really do the scenes and go full Monty,” Lawrence said.

“It took a while to say yes – and the night before I didn’t sleep at all and I was obviously really nervous because it is the actual nightmare of standing in front of a classroom naked.

“But then after I finished the scene, I felt empowered.”

Lawrence previously talked about the psychological impact of her naked photo leak, saying she went through “a long period when I didn’t want to be seen sexually and I didn’t want anybody to see my flesh.”

The Hunger Games actor was upset, but she felt as if she regained “something that was taken from” her through filming the naked sequences.

She told 60 Minutes: “I realised that there was a difference between consent and not and I showed up for the first day and I did it and I felt empowered. I feel like something that was taken from me I got back and am using in my art.”

Jennifer had to record torture sequences in addition to the naked scenes, which she claimed were “gruelling” to film.

“I was terrified,” she added (via The Daily Mail). “I don’t think I have ever been so scared of doing a movie before in my life. It was a lot of firsts for me. I was getting water poured on myself. I kept asking for it to be heated up. They said, ‘No, because then it will steam.’

“Ballet was probably the most frustrating. There was so much training,” she continued.

“I get it, if you have a goal to get to pushing your body that far makes sense but at the end of the movie I was like, ‘I’m not going to be a ballerina.'”

In the new film, the 27-year-old plays Dominika Erogova, a Russian dancer who is recruited into ‘sparrow school,’ a Russian intelligence program where she is educated in the art of seduction and sexual manipulation.

In addition to Charlotte Rampling, Jeremy Irons, and Mary Louise Parker, the picture stars Joel Edgerton as Dominika’s first target, CIA officer Nate Nash.

Francis Lawrence, who helmed The Hunger Games, will direct Red Sparrow, which will be released in theaters on March 2.

The actress recently slammed critics who chastised her for not wearing a slinky Versace gown with a coat to a photocall with her Red Sparrow co-stars in London last week.

Many people believed the photo of her in the strappy dress with the guys in jackets was sexist.

Jennifer remarked on her official Facebook page, ‘Wow. I don’t really know where to get started on this “Jennifer Lawrence wearing a revealing dress in the cold” controversy. This is not only utterly ridiculous, I am extremely offended.

‘That Versace dress was fabulous, you think I’m going to cover that gorgeous dress up with a coat and a scarf? I was outside for 5 minutes. I would have stood in the snow for that dress because I love fashion and that was my choice.’
