Jena Malone was sexually assaulted while filming The Hunger Games

Actress Jena Malone has come forward with allegations of being sexually assaulted by a fellow worker on the set of the popular Hunger Games film series.

The 38-year-old actress disclosed the incident in an Instagram post yesterday (1 March), reflecting on her experiences while working on the movies.

In the post’s caption, Malone described the photo’s backdrop as the French countryside, taken after the completion of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.

She shared her thoughts, stating, “We were shooting in a beautiful estate in the countryside of France and I asked the driver to let me out in this field so I could cry and capture this moment.

“Even tho this time in Paris was extremely hard for me, was going thru a bad break up and also was sexually assaulted by someone I had worked with, I was so full of gratitude for this project, the people I became close with and this amazing part I got to play [sic].”

Malone acknowledged the wonderful opportunities the film franchise provided her, but admitted that the trauma from the assault has left her with a ‘swirling mix of emotions im only now just learning to sort thru [sic].’

“I wish it wasn’t tied to such a traumatic event for me but that is the real wildness of life I guess. How to hold the chaos with the beauty [sic],” the actress expressed.

Though she is only now coming to terms with the trauma, Malone has forgiven her unnamed assaulter.

She has made ‘peace’ with the person and with herself, but due to the incident, she finds it challenging to discuss her experiences on the film series.

Malone now feels ‘ready to move thru it and reclaim the joy and accomplishment I felt’.

In her emotional post, she also showed support for other sexual assault survivors.

“Lots of love to you survivors out there,” wrote Malone.

“The process is so slow and non linear. I want to say im here for anyone who needs to talk or vent or open uncommunicated spaces within themselves. Please dm me if you need a safe space to be heard [sic].”

Malone portrayed Johanna Mason, the 71st Hunger Games victor, in the franchise.

She first appeared in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and later reprised her role in the two-part finale – Mockingjay – Part 1 and Mockingjay – Part 2.
