James Van Der Beek had his *ss grabbed by older men

Actor James Van Der Beek has revealed that he was a victim of sexual harassment in Hollywood, joining a growing number of individuals speaking out about their experiences in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

In a tweet, the Dawson’s Creek star wrote, “I’ve had my *ss grabbed by older, powerful men, I’ve had them corner me in inappropriate sexual conversations when I was much younger.”

Van Der Beek added that he understood the difficulties of reporting such incidents, stating, “There’s a power dynamic that feels impossible to overcome.”

Van Der Beek’s comments were made in response to critics of women who have made allegations of sexual misconduct against Weinstein.

The actor noted, “For anyone judging the women who stayed silent, read this for perspective. Also for anyone brushing off harassment as ‘boys being boys’…What Weinstein is being accused of is criminal.”

He added, “What he’s admitted to is unacceptable — in any industry. I applaud everybody speaking out.”

The star of Vice is not the first male actor to speak out about harassment in Hollywood.

On 10 October, Terry Crews, star of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, alleged on Twitter that a “high level Hollywood executive” had grped him at a function in 2016.

Crews claimed that he had been about to respond with violence but had held back, stating, “‘240 lbs. Black Man stomps out Hollywood Honcho’ would be the headline the next day…I was going to kick his a– right then—but I thought twice about how the whole thing would appear.”

The recent revelations regarding Weinstein, and the wider discussion of harassment in Hollywood, has seen a number of high-profile individuals speak out about their own experiences.

On 10 October, Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow both alleged that Weinstein had harassed them earlier in their careers.

The New York Times had already revealed allegations made by eight women against Weinstein, including actress Rose McGowan, who was reportedly paid a settlement after an incident in 1997.

Further allegations emerged on 10 October in an article in The New Yorker, which included claims of rape and assault.

Thirteen women were quoted, including Asia Argento, who alleged that Weinstein had forced oral s– on her.

Two other actresses, Mira Sorvino and Rosanna Arquette, alleged that they had been denied roles after rejecting Weinstein’s advances.
