Isaiah Washington Calls Out Katherine Heigl Over His ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Firing
Isaiah Washington, a former co-star on Grey’s Anatomy, has rekindled his drama with Katherine Heigl.
On Monday, the 57-year-old P-Valley star chastised Heigl, 41, for suggesting he should “never be allowed to speak publicly again” on Twitter. Washington, who portrayed Dr. Preston Burke on Grey’s Anatomy, was sacked from the medical drama in 2007 for using a homophobic slur on set – aimed at T.R. Knight (George O’Malley).
Isaiah accused her of stifling his “free speech.”

He posted on Monday beside a photo of Heigl, “This woman once proclaimed that I should ‘never’ be allowed to speak publicly again. The world agreed with her proclamation back then and protested for my job and my head in 65 languages. I wish I was on Twitter in 2007, because I will NEVER stop exercising my free speech.”

In the comments section, he wrote, “I’ve learned that all money ain’t good money and no amount of money can replace your dignity and integrity. Some call it living by your principles.”
On Monday, Washington went on to label Heigl “the first Karen” and pulled Miranda Bailey, who has been on the show since season 1, into the controversy.
“Your opinions are your own, but you are a fool, a liberal and misguided feminist to even try and defend this woman,” Washington tweeted at a fan defending Heigl. “You weren’t there, so die on this hill, whoever you are. She could have cared less about her gay friend. Chandra Wilson knows all about that too.”

“Because it’s the TRUTH. The End,” Washington said in response to another fan’s question about why he’s bringing up the past.
While Heigl has yet to officially address the controversy around her this week, a source close to her told People that the actress has no regrets about how she handled the previous incident.
“Katherine stood up for her close friend twice when Isaiah publicly outed him and called him a f****t. That’s hate talk, not free speech,” an unnamed source told the outlet. “She is proud that she stood up for him. Katherine is and always will be an advocate and ally to the LGBTQ community.”
“No, I did not call T.R. a faggot,” Washington declared in the Golden Globes press room in 2007, when questioned about the reported on-set confrontation between himself and Knight. “There is no way I could do anything so vile, and so horrible, not only to a castmate but to a fellow human being,” Washington told reporters at the occasion.
Heigl, who was close friends with Knight at the time, slammed Washington’s comments. “I’m going to be really honest right now, he needs to just not speak in public. Period,” she told Access Hollywood. “I’m sorry, that did not need to be said, I’m not okay with it.”
“I just feel like this is something that should be very much in-house we need to deal with,” she added. “… T.R. is my best friend. I will throw down for that kid.”
