‘I would want to kill myself’ – Elliot Page

Elliot Page, the actor known for his roles in “Juno” and “Umbrella Academy,” has revealed that he once turned down a movie role because he was uncomfortable with the idea of wearing feminine clothing.

In his new memoir, “Pageboy,” the actor, who came out as transgender in 2020, shared that the thought of having to wear a woman’s costume from the mid-nineteenth century was too much for him to bear.

He wrote that if he were to take on the role, he would want to kill himself.

Although Page did not reveal the name of the film, it was reported in 2008 that he had been cast in an adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s “Jane Eyre.” Mia Wasikowska later took on the role.

The actor explained that he was set to travel to England to play a “sought-after” role based on a “famous book” following awards season.

However, playing a feminine character on-screen became overwhelming for him, especially when the role he played in his personal life was suffocating him already.

In his memoir, Page described how difficult it was to explain to his representatives that he couldn’t take on the role because of the wardrobe.

Wardrobe fittings for films left him feeling like talons were gashing his organs.

He also cringed at the way people lit up when they saw him in feminine clothing, as if he had accomplished a miraculous feat.

During an interview with ABC news, Page said that his sensitivity towards his gender identity and wearing women’s clothing was complicated because he was typically met with a less-than-empathetic response due to his career.

People would tell him to just put on the clothes, but it was so much more than that.

In addition to revealing his struggles with gender identity, Page’s memoir also contains a slew of bombshells, including affairs and run-ins with “a—hole” A-list actors.

He also claimed that he and his “Juno” co-star Olivia Thirlby were having s** “all the time” while they filmed the 2007 teen pregnancy film.

Page alleged that the two had been spending a considerable amount of time together and that one day, in Thirlby’s hotel room, Thirlby “looked directly at me and said point-blank, ‘I’m really attracted to you.’” After confessing similar sentiments, the two allegedly “started sucking face.”

Thirlby, who came out as bisexual in a 2011 interview, married Jacques Pienaar in 2014.

As of now, no comments have been made by her representative regarding Page’s claims.

Elliot Page’s memoir gives insight into the struggles that he has faced as a transgender actor in Hollywood.

His decision to decline a movie role due to his discomfort with wearing feminine clothing highlights the challenges that many transgender individuals face in their daily lives.

Page’s candidness about his experiences may serve as a source of comfort and inspiration for others within the LGBTQ+ community who are struggling with their identity.
