“Monster’s Ball” has become a lasting part of cinema history because of Halle Berry’s famous Oscar speech and the classic sex scene she had in the film with co-star Billy Bob Thornton.

Billy Bob Thornton recently spoke with The Huffington Post about his memories of the 55-year-old actress and their interactions on the set of Monster’s Ball.

He even revealed a few facts about their legendary sex scene in the 2001 Academy Award-winning picture. The passionate sex scene “felt so real,” he said.

Billy Bob remarked. “It felt so real when we were doing it that [we felt] the heaviness surrounding the circumstances in the story. I think maybe that’s why it comes across so well on screen, because it was two desperate human beings in this moment alone, and we kind of were alone.”

Obviously, Thornton isn’t the only one who was moved by their outstanding performance. According to the Times of India, the iconic moment has become a fan favorite over the years and has been reposted on numerous media platforms by fans all over the world.

The ‘Fargo’ star went on to say that because the film was “dark” he felt “pretty exposed” rather than titillated when filming the “exciting” intimate scene with one of Hollywood’s most beautiful ladies.

For those who haven’t watched the romantic drama, the plot revolves on a poor Southern woman (Berry) who loses both her kid and her previous boyfriend. She eventually falls in love with Thornton’s character, a Louisiana State Penitentiary prison officer. Their on-screen chemistry was incredible. Berry’s performance in the film was also complimented by Thornton.

He continued: “When I was growing up, I obviously didn’t know who Halle Berry was, but if I had known I would have made sure it happened. I would have written Monster’s Ball myself immediately.”

According to The Guardian, Halle Berry was astonished by her own performance and was relieved that she would not have to reshoot the sequence.

“We both agreed to be uninhibited with our bodies, so it wasn’t just the woman who was being exposed, and we just said, ‘Let’s service these characters.’ We only had to do it one time, which is good, because you don’t really want to have to go there that many times…”
