Gillian Anderson says she won’t be wearing a bra anymore

Actress Gillian Anderson has announced that she will no longer be wearing a bra, stating that they are “just too fucking uncomfortable.”

Anderson made the announcement on Instagram Live on Monday night, following in the footsteps of fellow British actress Emma Thompson, who also recently spoke out against underwear, calling it “torture” and revealing that she hasn’t worn any in years.

“I don’t like underwear, full stop,” Thompson said on British morning show Lorraine. “I stopped wearing underwear a long time ago, it’s not my scene.”

Anderson echoed Thompson’s sentiments, saying that she cannot wear a bra and that she does not care about the adverse effects it may have on her figure.

“I don’t care if my breasts reach my belly button,” she said.

“I’m not wearing a bra.” This anti-underwear stance has been growing in popularity recently, with many celebrities ditching their bras and speaking out against the discomfort and oppression they feel.

Bras have gone in and out of style over the years, with underwire once dominating the market in the early 2000s.

However, in recent years, lighter bralettes have become more popular, and many women have chosen to forego bras altogether.

The pandemic-era work-from-home style has also contributed to the decline of bras, with many women finding them unnecessary and uncomfortable when working from home.

While the trend of ditching bras may be popular among some celebrities and individuals, it is important to note that it is not practical for all women, particularly those with larger cup sizes.

Sweeping generalizations declaring the end of the bra tend to ignore the experiences of larger-bodied individuals.

However, when it does, it seems that Anderson will not be among those wearing one.

As Anderson said on Instagram Live, “I think it’s probably because I’m getting older. I’m probably just… I’ve gained weight and I’m just more comfortable in my skin, and I’m more comfortable with my br–sts.”
