Dakota Johnson says Th0ngs were superglued to her Body while filming ‘Fifty Shades Freed’

While you’re enjoying all of Fifty Shades Freed’s ultra-s-xy sequences, think about Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, who had a rather uns-xy experience filming those same scenes. Johnson shared a behind-the-scenes look at all the genuinely horrific things she’s had to go through while bringing your favorite book club books to life in an interview with Marie Claire this week.

Filming the racy s*x scenes with Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey) was “never easy,” according to Johnson, who plays Anastasia Steele, aka “Mrs. Grey.”

She says, “It’s not casual and it’s not fun. It never got easy.”

Ana and Christian negotiate married life and an unanticipated pregnancy in the third and final episode of the blockbuster trilogy, all while continuing to enjoy wild, crazy s*x.

During filming, the brunette beauty claims there were several awkward moments.

During s*x sequences, Johnson revealed that her modesty th0ngs had to be actually glued to her body. “I had these sort of strapless th0ngs that had glue on them. It’s not glue, but it’s sticky. They’re, like, basically if it were a nipple pastie, but underwear. But it’s only sticky at the top, it’s not sticky the whole way. It would also come off because the adhesive would wear out, so then they would superglue it to my body so that it wouldn’t fall off,” she said. “I would wear two of them. It’s not painful, I mean, it’s barely anything. But I guess you have some sense of being covered. It’s f*cking bizarre.”

Dornan, for one, had to conceal his junk with a “little pouch.”

“It’s super not glamorous—it’s really uns-xy,” she said.

While Johnson has had to film many challenging sequences for the movie over the years, she claims the most difficult was a s*x scene in the Red Room with Jamie Dornan for 50 Shades Freed, which is currently in cinemas.

“I was handcuffed with my arms and legs to the gate. It’s like a fence thing that comes down. And I was blindfolded,” she recalls. “And it was kind of shocking, because I didn’t realize that no matter how prepared or rehearsed I was, when your senses are taken away like that, you can’t control the way your nervous system will react. So, it was really tricky to navigate that scene. It was kind of difficult.”

Johnson stated that she and Dornan got through those unpleasant situations by throwing back a shot or two beforehand, which is reasonable.

“Most of [our preparation] is just really figuring out exactly how were are going to accomplish the scene beforehand—so that there’s not a lot of waiting around while we’re both vulnerable. But, if something is very, very difficult, it’s sometimes necessary to have a shot of something strong beforehand,” she stated. Working with “advisors” who led them through the BDSM techniques in each scenario was also beneficial.

“We just had people who specialized in knowing how things work, like how to use certain tools and toys. There’s a certain method. It’s very intricate and the details are really important. The rules are also really important,” explained the 28-year-old. “We didn’t want to go make a movie about something we didn’t research to the bone. So to really honor the BDSM community, we did it the right way.”

ET spoke with Dornan at the Le Grand Hotel in Paris, France, earlier this month, and he discussed what it’s like to say goodbye to the character who has made him a household name.

“It’s tough in some respects, but it’s also really nice and kind of bittersweet, I guess,” he explained. “I think when you finish any movie or TV series or whatever, you’ve invested so much [time] into the character and the job itself and the other actors and the crew.”

“That’s sort of tenfold if it’s a sequel or trilogy of films,” he said. “For the most part, we had the same crew back [and] obviously the same actors back, so you’re that much more invested in these people and their lives and that much more closer to them. So, it makes it harder to say goodbye.”
