Christian Bale is fed up of Drastically Changing His Weight For Roles

After years of pushing his body through drastic alterations for cinematic roles, Christian Bale claims he’s ready to stop losing and gaining weight for jobs.

For Adam McKay’s Vice, in which he plays former Vice President Dick Cheney, Bale was up to his usual shenanigans. In costume, he’s almost unrecognizable, thanks not just to the great makeup specialists, but also to the 45 pounds Bale gained during his long preparation. It’s difficult to argue against Bale’s unconventional approach, especially when he won a Golden Globe for it and is up for Best Actor at the Oscars this year. Bale’s crazed dieting days, though, appear to be behind him.

‘I can’t keep doing it,’ Christian revealed to The Sunday Times’ Culture magazine. ‘I really can’t. My mortality is staring me in the face.’

During his transition, he contacted Gary Oldman, his co-star from The Dark Knight, who assured him that he hadn’t gained a pound in preparation for his Oscar-winning portrayal as Winston Churchill in 2017’s The Darkest Hour. When Oldman told Bale, though, he had already gained 20 pounds. He admitted that he felt like a “tit” after that, but he chose to go ahead and commit.

He expressed sympathy for his wife, model Sibi Blazic, who had to put up with his shifting appearance, saying, “No matter what happens, my wife’s seen it,” but that his current look has found a fan in his four-year-old son Joseph.

‘My son loved the tummy. He would just bounce up and down on that a lot and headbutt it and bounce off it and fall to the floor.’

When asked if he would portray other politicians like Boris Johnson, he claimed his wife would object: “She’d say: ‘No, we’re not having that one. He’s not coming in the house.'”

When he played insomniac Trevor Reznik in the 2004 movie The Machinist, the actor notably pushed his body to extremes, losing 62 pounds. Christian Bale’s drastic weight loss had a devastating impact on him both physically and mentally. He also apparently lost so much weight that he stopped shedding body fat and began to lose muscular elasticity. Yikes!
