Charlize Theron was exhausted during s-x scene with Seth Rogen

The s** scene in ‘Long Shot’ is brief, according to Charlize Theron, because she was “tired that day.”

The Oscar winner co-stars with Seth Rogen in the new romantic comedy, in which the two have a few intimate scenes.

Seth Rogen plays Fred Flarsky, a Brooklyn journalist who is employed as a speechwriter by Secretary of State and presidential candidate Charlotte Fields (Charlize Theron) and pursues a love connection with her despite their vast contrasts, as the title indicates.

Charlize and Seth ultimately get it on about a third of the way through the movie: Fred mounts Charlotte after many minutes of attempting to remove their pants, and the two — yes, both! — climax in under 10 seconds. “Sorry,” says Charlotte. “I usually last a lot longer than that.”

At a screening Vulture attended, one woman yelled out, “What the f–k!?”

Since the film’s South by Southwest premiere, where Mashable’s Angie Han generously ascribed an extra 80 seconds to its run time and expressed frustration with its lack of realism regarding women’s sexuality, this scene has drawn criticism.

Rogen was quick to respond, saying on Twitter that Theron was in charge of the s** scene’s mechanics — and that he, too, had voiced skepticism at first.

He wrote: “Believe me, I had my doubts and Charlize demanded it was possible much to the shock of myself and director. We went with her suggestion.”

At the New York City premiere of the film, Theron told Vulture that the sequence is so brief because of her.

Charlize explained: “I’m gonna be honest with you. I was tired that day. I didn’t wanna do all the work. I went for comfort!”

Seth added: “Which is a lot like real s**!”

During an interview with the Press Association via the Irish Examiner, Theron, who is appearing in her first straight-forward romantic comedy, recently talked out about grappling with the message most of them send audiences.

“I struggle with that sometimes in romantic comedies, I feel like I’m the only loser who has never experienced the third act of most romantic comedy and it just makes me feel very bitter,” she said jokingly as Rogen laughed alongside her.

“So I just wanted to feel like I could bring something to the table,” she explained. “I think it’s hard for me to do that kind of fantasy love stuff. I just wanted to make sure that we all agreed that we wanted to make a film that would have two characters that felt modern and felt at time conflicted and that we would focus on a relationship that felt real.”
