Billie Eilish Shows Off Secret Hip Tattoo in British Vogue
Billie Eilish has finally unveiled her tattoo.
Billie Eilish discreetly got her first tattoo in 2020, crossing another item off her bucket list. The singer announced her new ink in December during her annual video update with Vanity Fair, however she didn’t provide any photos. “I did get a tattoo. But you won’t ever see,” she promised viewers. Billie, it appears, has just broken that vow.
Eilish announced on Instagram on May 2 that she is the cover girl for the June 2021 issue of the magazine, in which she models numerous vintage-inspired designer lingerie sets. It’s a total 180 from her former characteristic look, which featured large shirts and pants in bold designs — but that’s not the only thing we noticed about these gorgeous images.
Eilish has been keeping a major secret from fans in the shape of an all-black tattoo that runs high on her leg and goes all the way up to her stomach, but is partially hidden by a bespoke corset, as you can see from the singer’s Instagram photo of the spread. She hasn’t spoken anything about the tattoo (or its meaning), and has simply captioned the shot with an upside-down smiling emoji.

Throughout the session, she shows off more and more of her tattoo, even if it isn’t visible in its whole . However, because the bulk of the artwork is obscured, it’s unclear what the design is. It appears to be a tropical bird or mythological monster, such as a phoenix, dragon, or hippogriff, based on its plumage.
Dena Giannini designed the pinup-style lingerie picture, and Eilish told British Vogue, “I’ve literally never done anything in this realm at all.
“Y’know, besides when I’m alone and s—t.”
“Don’t make me not a role model because you’re turned on by me,” Eilish said in the interview. “Showing your body and showing your skin – or not – should not take any respect away from you.”
She also discusses the notorious black and green wig (“I’m not putting on that f*cking wig one more time,” she says) and how her freshly colored blonde hair makes her feel “more like a woman” in the conversation. She also delves into the difficulties of what it means to be secure in your own skin in a culture that denigrates women.
Eilish also stated that she is growing into her own, regardless of what others may think or what commitments she may have made in the past.
“People always say, ‘How would your younger self feel about you now?’ And that’s a good thing to think about in some cases,” Eilish said.
“But I also think you shouldn’t try to be a person that your old self would like, and you shouldn’t try to be a person that your future self is going to be. You should be exactly who you feel like you are and want to be in that moment. Otherwise, you’re going to go insane.”
