Bella Hadid reveals she experienced pressure to portray a sensual and wild persona during the early stages of her modeling career.

In the September cover story for Vogue, published on Thursday, Bella Hadid, daughter of Palestinian property developer Mohamed Hadid and Dutch supermodel Yolanda Hadid, shared that she struggled with her identity when she began modeling at the age of 17.

“It felt like there were two Bellas — the real me, who was still figuring out her identity, and ‘Bella Hadid’ the alter ego, who appeared to be, I don’t know, a s-xbot who went out every night?” she expressed.

Currently 24 and one of the top-earning, most sought-after models in high fashion, Bella admitted that the image she presented was far from her true self.

“I suffer from intense social anxiety! Partying isn’t my scene, but I felt immense pressure to display that image because I thought that’s what people expected from me,” she confessed.

Bella continued, “Now, I don’t want to be confined to that box. I feel like I can finally express myself.”

In a 2018 episode of Yolanda’s reality show “Making a Model,” Bella spoke about experiencing panic attacks.

She found comparisons to her older sister Gigi Hadid, another supermodel, particularly difficult due to their contrasting personalities.

Bella characterized Gigi as “extremely bubbly” and “outgoing,” while she herself is “more reserved.”

She admitted, “I would break down in tears and tremble if I had to do interviews at red carpet events. It was genuinely nerve-wracking and terrifying.”

Bella also mentioned that she would sometimes “blackout” during runway walks.

“I would come out and think, ‘Well, I guess it’s over now,'” she remembered.

Eventually, her symptoms improved as she became more active in her work and engaged with people regularly, Bella explained.

“You think, ‘Alright, this is my job, I need to do it.'”
