Anne Hathaway ‘was scared of Knocked Up role’ because of Graphic Scene
Seth Rogen’s breakthrough film was Knocked Up. The Canadian comedian Judd Apatow appears as Ben Stone, a slacker who has a one-night stand with E! News reporter Alison Scott(Katherine Heigl), which results in her pregnancy.
Heigl, who rose to prominence in Hollywood after her role, was at the forefront of the film.
However, despite her success in the film, another actress was courted for the role — an actress who ultimately declined owing to the graphic nature of the birthing scene.
And that actress was Anne Hathaway.
“My issue with it was that having not experienced motherhood myself, I didn’t know how I was gonna feel on the other side about giving birth. And by the way,” Hathaway later revealed to Allure. “I could pop a kid out and think, Oh, well, I really should have done that movie,” she remarked.

This would be Anne’s debut picture in this genre, and she had no desire to be a part of it after reading the film’s final birth scene.
Judd Apatow discussed the actress’ departure in a New York Times profile.
“Hathaway dropped out of the film because she didn’t want to allow us to use real footage of a woman giving birth to create the illusion that she is giving birth.”
Heigl, on the other hand, was overjoyed to be cast, and even more so when viewers were stunned by graphic imagery of a baby’s head crowning during the film’s childbirth sequence.
“I think Anne found the film a little too radical, especially with the shot at the end!” adds the 30-year-old.
“Seeing a baby’s head poking through was a little strong but the reaction of the audience at that point was so extreme. They just screamed – especially the men!”
Now that Hathaway is a mother of two young boys, she may have a new perspective on the part she turned down in Knocked Up.
